For Star Wars prequel trilogy enthusiasts, this is an exciting time! Apart from the big screen, there’s more excitement coming with the release of “Star Wars: Master of Evil” by Adam Christopher on November 11th. This novel offers insights into Darth Vader‘s Sith apprenticeship and his journey towards the Dark Side. As per the publisher Penguin Random House, it will delve into the “dark ritual” Vader performs to craft a genuine Sith lightsaber – a pivotal moment in Vader’s life that was previously depicted in the 2017 comic book “Darth Vader” #5. Fans of the Chosen One will appreciate experiencing this event from a fresh angle in Christopher’s novel.
The Star Wars prequel series offers a comprehensive look at Anakin Skywalker’s life, starting from his liberation from slavery by the Jedi up until he abandons the order and embraces the Dark Side. Leaving us with a sorrowful, fractured character, it remains somewhat unclear how he transforms into such a dedicated servant of Emperor Palpatine during the original trilogy. Fortunately, gifted storytellers have started to bridge these gaps, and Christopher is now contributing to this endeavor.
The 2017 Marvel Comics series titled “Star Wars: Darth Vader – Dark Lord of the Sith” was penned by Charles Soule and illustrated primarily by Giuseppe Camuncoli, along with numerous other artists, letterers, and editors. This series begins directly following the end of “Revenge of the Sith“, spanning over two years and 25 issues. It delves into significant events that shaped Vader as a devout follower of the Dark Side, with the creation of his own Sith lightsaber serving as the initial step in this transformation.
Master of Evil seems to delve into Darth Vader’s transformation period, offering a unique perspective. The fundamental events remain consistent — “On the fiery planet of Mustafar, Vader performs a dark ritual, draining a kyber crystal to craft his lightsaber. This action releases a power more immense than he foreseen, providing him with a glimpse into the boundless might of the Force.
Performing the Kyber crystal ritual is a significant milestone for a Sith apprentice, and while it has been illustrated in comics that Vader might have undergone this rite, it hasn’t been shown on screen with him as the main character. The only instances where fans have witnessed it in movies or TV shows are through one video game and one Disney+ series. With the release of shows like Andor, many fans eagerly anticipate more intricate lore being explored, and this ritual is one they hope to see more of concerning Vader.
You can now pre-order “Star Wars: Master of Evil” in multiple formats, including print, digital, and audiobooks. The release date is set for November 11th. In the interim, enthusiasts eager to delve deeper can explore related events found in the 2017 version of “Darth Vader”, available both in print and digital versions.
