Following the highly exciting unveiling of the second trailer for GTA 6, it’s clear that enthusiasts of Square Enix and Disney have been eagerly waiting longer for a peek at the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4. I’m not undermining the excitement of Rockstar Games fans, but the first Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer dropped on April 10th, 2022. For more than three years now, fans have been yearning for updates about the next chapter in the action-adventure RPG series, with only minimal tidbits shared since then. Although the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link and new Kingdom Hearts 4 screenshots indicate that Square Enix is focusing more on the fourth main series installment, fans are growing curious about when they can expect substantial new content from the franchise.
Longtime fans of Kingdom Hearts have grown accustomed to extended wait times, and Kingdom Hearts 3 was no exception. After its initial reveal in 2014, there was a three-year gap before any new gameplay was unveiled at the 2017 Kingdom Hearts Experience concert. The future plans of Tetsuya Nomura’s project remain uncertain, given the veil of secrecy surrounding the series. The most recent update from the series came with the disappointing cancellation of the mobile spin-off game Missing-Link, which was intended to fill in some Kingdom Hearts backstory before the release of Kingdom Hearts 4.
Since Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently the only announced installment in the series, it’s clear that Square Enix’s next reveal concerning Kingdom Hearts will undoubtedly be about Kingdom Hearts 4. This prediction is further supported by their recent unveiling of screenshots from Kingdom Hearts 4 featuring Sora and King Mickey as playable characters. Based on the available information, Kingdom Hearts 4 is expected to carry forward the storyline of Sora within the realm of Quadratum. It’s unclear where in the development process Square Enix stands, but considering three years have already passed, there’s a chance that we might see more of Kingdom Hearts 4 by the end of 2025.
Will We See A New Kingdom Hearts 4 Trailer This Year?
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation about the possibility of another trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 in 2025. You see, three years elapsed between the teaser at E3 2014 and the gameplay footage montage in 2017 for Kingdom Hearts 3. Given that Square Enix was engaged on another project at the time, the longer gap seems understandable. Yet, the glimpses we’ve had of Kingdom Hearts 4 through screenshots hint at a richer narrative waiting to unfold. Therefore, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to speculate that a trailer might surface somewhere between mid and late 2025. Square Enix has made it clear they are committed to the game’s success and will share more details “when the time is right.
In August, during D23, it’s likely that we’ll get updates on “Kingdom Hearts 4”. This is more probable given its potential connections to recent productions such as “Elio”, “Zootopia 2”, and “Tron: Ares”. Notably, Square Enix might also present “Kingdom Hearts 4” since they’ve hosted game-focused events in the past for projects like “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth”.
Although no release date or platform details for KH4 have been announced yet, we expect such information to come out sooner rather than later. As for speculations about trailer releases for Kingdom Hearts 4, there’s currently no definite timeline on when it will be unveiled publicly. Regardless, Kingdom Hearts fans are keeping their anticipation high and ready for the big reveal whenever it happens.
