Following a two-year anticipation since James Gunn’s initial DC Studios announcement, the DC Universe is now set to hit the big screen with “Superman” this summer. However, this isn’t the only swiftly progressing DC project, as the next major film in the DCU, titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“, has received a significant production update from its lead actress, Milly Alcock. The star of “House of the Dragon” portrays the main character in “Woman of Tomorrow“, making her DCU debut alongside “Superman” in July. Production on “Supergirl” began only this year, but Alcock shared that filming has progressed rapidly.
Milly Alcock recently appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and shared exciting news about “Supergirl” with DC fans. In her interview, Alcock revealed that she has completed filming for the upcoming DCU movie. While this doesn’t indicate that the entire production has finished, it means that all of Alcock’s scenes have been filmed. Filming for “Woman of Tomorrow” started in January, as confirmed by director James Gunn with a behind-the-scenes set photo on social media. Given that it’s a smaller movie, five months is quite a long production time. However, for a big superhero blockbuster, it’s relatively swift. It remains unclear how much of the film is still left to shoot without Alcock.
Jimmy Fallon inquired about the amount of information Milly Alcock could disclose regarding “Woman of Tomorrow.” Given the secrecy that usually surrounds upcoming superhero productions, Alcock is bound to be as tight-lipped as Cassandra Cain. Playfully, she quipped, “I can tell you I’m Supergirl.” Unlike “Superman,” which had numerous set photos leaked, the production of “Supergirl” has been under strict control. Just a few hazy set photos have surfaced online, one of which is a phony AI version of Jason Momoa’s Lobo.
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Releases in 2026
In the upcoming cinematic lineup for DC Universe (DCU), “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is set to follow “Superman,” premiering this July. Previously announced, Alcock will first appear in “Superman,” and then star in her own film next year. The trailers for “Superman” have kept the identity of Supergirl a mystery. In the latest trailer, a new character named Hammer of Boravia was unveiled. Although the character’s true identity remains unknown, some speculate that it could be Supergirl wearing an enormous suit of armor.
In addition to Mily Alcock, the rebooted DC Universe’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will also introduce Jason Momoa as a new character. While fans have previously seen Momoa as Aquaman in the DCU, he has been cast as the much-anticipated role of Lobo. Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien woman assisted by Supergirl to avenge her parents’ deaths. Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
