Return to the captivating world of Jurassic Park. In a fresh trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali embark on an adventure to the island where John Hammond’s dinosaur-themed park was originally built. This intriguing sneak peek hints at another mass extinction event for the genetically engineered dinosaurs that have been thriving on Earth since they shared existence with humans in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.
In the latest film helmed by Gareth Edwards, who directed “Godzilla”, and penned by David Koepp known for “Jurassic Park”, a covert ops expert Zora Bennett (played by Johansson), a paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Bailey), and team leader Duncan Kincaid (Ali) are dispatched to the off-limits island, which previously hosted a secretive Jurassic Park research center.
Loomis remarks in the trailer, “We kept any dinosaurs deemed too dangerous here,” as clips of a monster like Aliens’ Xenomorph show brief glimpses of the six-limbed mutant dinosaur, Distortus rex, created by InGen scientists at the third site where Rebirth unfolds.
Five years since the release of “Dominion” starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, dinosaurs find themselves endangered once more. The ecosystem has largely proven unsuitable for the dinosaurs brought back from ancient DNA, and those that survive are primarily found in equatorial regions with climates similar to their original habitats.
Living within this lush tropical ecosystem reside the three largest creatures known in the world, spanning land, sea, and air. They carry genetic material that could revolutionize medicine by unlocking a drug offering extraordinary life-saving potential for mankind. This discovery would mark “one of the most significant medical advancements in centuries,” according to Martin Krebs from Big Pharma (portrayed by Rupert Friend). However, obtaining samples from these living dinosaurs proves challenging. “You’re suggesting we draw blood from these animals while they’re still alive?” asks Bennett skeptically. Despite the hazards, Bennett, Loomis, and Kincaid are willing to jeopardize their own lives to gather Paleo-DNA from the third site: the most treacherous location on Earth.
In their respective realms, the mighty Mosasaurus thrives in the ocean depths, the Spinosaurus roams the seas, and Mutadons – a fascinating blend of Raptor and Pterosaur with wings – soar through the skies. However, land is the kingdom of the most formidable predator to have ever walked the Earth: Tyrannosaurus rex. Yet, in an exciting turn reminiscent of Michael Crichton’s initial Jurassic Park novel, it is on a river crossing by raft that the T-Rex makes its terrifying appearance as humans venture across.
In my own words, I find myself echoing Koepp’s sentiment when he said, “We found some elements from the original novels that we thought would enrich our new movie.” This film isn’t an adaptation of a single novel, but rather a creative blend. There was a scene from the first book that we’ve always yearned to include in the original movie, but didn’t have the opportunity then. Now, we finally have the chance! Re-entering that world after 30 years felt like slipping back into an old, familiar skin – it’s still just as fun! And let me tell you, dinosaurs are not only entertaining, but they remain incredibly terrifying as well.
Jurassic World: Resurgence – Featuring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein, this blockbuster hits theaters on July 2.
