Continuing its trend of unveiling brief previews, game developer Build A Rocket Boy has shared another one for their upcoming third-person story-driven action title, MindsEye. This newest snippet concentrates solely on ground combat, offering a glimpse into protagonist Jacob Diaz’s ability to tackle diverse adversaries using his weaponry. Take a look at the latest preview here.
The introductory scene initiates with a display of cover-based combat, subsequently shifting focus to Diaz engaging directly in the battle by charging towards his adversaries. Additionally, the teaser previews both physical and mechanical conflicts as Diaz faces off against drones, while also hinting at a unique ability that allows him to detect enemy positions even through walls.
Throughout much of the battle, an assault rifle is predominantly used. However, towards the climax, there’s a shift to a unique energy-based weapon. As the opposition strengthens, Diaz transitions to a fully automatic rifle that discharges energy bolts, effectively destroying their vehicle in just a few bursts.
Just as the teaser concludes, there’s a fleeting peek at the weapon selection, revealing various firearms such as a pistol, sniper, assault rifle, shotgun, submachine gun, energy rifle, and what appears to be a heavy machine gun.
In our discussion, we’re referring to the third preview for “MindsEye,” which Build A Rocket Boy recently unveiled. The initial teaser emphasized close-combat action, while the second one highlighted a car chase scene. In contrast, the first trailer showcased Diaz utilizing multiple weapons such as a pistol and shotgun, whereas the second trailer, amidst a high-speed vehicle pursuit, placed more emphasis on a dialogue between Diaz and a character named Claudia.
It’s important to mention that the three trailers recently released showcase the same gameplay content as what leaked in May. The leak occurred when a streamer unintentionally revealed footage he received from Build A Rocket Boy, which was initially intended for private viewing and not meant for public sharing.
It’s not surprising that the story in the game MindsEye will play a crucial role, given that the teasers have effectively combined narrative and gameplay elements so far. In an interview, Assistant Game Director Adam Whiting emphasized his desire to create a compelling, well-written story instead of rushing to develop a live-service game for immediate financial gain.
Whiting expressed that he recognizes the transformation in the environment, and he noted that creating games is costly, leading him to believe that developers are striving to create large live service games. However, he also emphasized the importance of a compelling, carefully structured story that players can fully engage with, one that offers tension, character growth, emotional moments, and both quiet and dramatic scenes.
MindsEye is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 10.
