Enthusiasts of Call the Midwife have been actively brainstorming about what lies ahead for the cherished BBC show and the sisters from Nonnatus.
Jenny Agutter, the actress portraying Sister Julienne, has spoken about significant adjustments upcoming as the characters adapt to changing times in the forthcoming series and the upcoming movie.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! Just last month, it was officially confirmed that our beloved Poplar series has more in store for us. Currently, the cameras are rolling on this year’s heartwarming two-part Christmas special and season 15, which is set to grace our screens in 2026. I can hardly wait!
Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that plans are underway for a film starring characters from the TV series, as well as a prequel series set during World War II. Notably, creator Heidi Thomas, along with Pippa Harris and Ann Tricklebank, continue to be involved in these upcoming projects.
In Season 14, Sister Julienne uncovered the fact that the entire order, not only her specific chapter, was grappling with financial issues while navigating their role in a changing world. This topic seems poised to be further delved into in upcoming episodes and the forthcoming film.
Concerning Sister Julienne’s future, Agutter shared with TellyVisions: “Her devotion to her faith and commitment to serve the community will remain unwavering. The question is, which community will she serve? Towards the end, they discuss the possibility of her leaving the UK and joining a mission group overseas.

It has been confirmed that the nuns are traveling to Hong Kong for the two-part Christmas special of Call the Midwife, and a movie set in a foreign location as well. While Helen George is accepting this change, she doesn’t want Sister Julienne to relocate permanently.
Asked about the possibility of some nuns spending more time away from Poplar, Agutter commented: “I don’t wish to stay overseas for extended periods, but I enjoy traveling immensely. It would be delightful to visit new places. Initially, the order arrived in this country and adapted to a different lifestyle.
Perhaps a journey, an adventure, or even something entirely new. It might involve being separated for some time, but the excitement makes it worthwhile!
Joining Agutter in the confirmed cast for season 15 are Judy Parfitt, Laura Main, Helen George, Cliff Parisi, Stephen McGann, Linda Bassett, Annabelle Apsion, Georgie Glen, Zephryn Taitte, Rebecca Gethings, Daniel Laurie, Renee Bailey, Natalie Quarry, Molly Vevers, Max Macmillan, Alice Brown, April Rae Hoang, and Edward Shaw.
