Fans of action movies are still enjoying watching their favorite action star dishing out punches to numerous villains. This year, The Stath is back at work in the movie “A Working Man“, which has already gained popularity worldwide through streaming platforms.
Released in movie theaters as early as March, the film titled “A Working Man” was made available in certain regions only last week. This action-packed thriller has swiftly risen to the second spot on the streaming platform’s global rankings. The movie is currently lagging slightly behind the black comedy mystery thriller “Another Simple Favor“, but it now outranks films like “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, G20“, as well as Statham’s own film “Wrath of Man“.
Under the guidance of director David Ayer, known for “The Beekeeper”, and with a screenplay penned by Sylvester Stallone, who also collaborated with Statham on “Expendables”, this film is an adaptation of Chuck Dixon’s novel “Levon’s Trade”. In the lead roles, we have David Harbour (famous for “Stranger Things” and upcoming “Thunderbolts”), Michael Peña (“End of Watch”), Jason Flemyng (“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”), Arianna Rivas (“The Black Phone 2”), Noemi Gonzalez (“Selena: The Series”), and Emmett J. Scanlan (“Peaky Blinders” and “Kin”). Statham is also part of the cast. For more details about the movie, read the official synopsis for “A Working Man”.
After a distinguished service in the black ops, Levon Cade chose a humble life as a construction worker. However, when his boss’s daughter – almost like family to him – was kidnapped by human traffickers, he embarked on a mission to rescue her. This quest led him to uncover a network of corruption that surpassed anything he had ever imagined.
Will ‘A Working Man’ Spawn Another Action Franchise for Jason Statham?
Although A Working Man, unlike its predecessor with Statham and Ayer, The Beekeeper, didn’t quite match up as a delightful action flick in the eyes of critics, it still offered plenty that audiences could appreciate. However, A Working Man has sparked much debate among critics, earning a 49% rating (a big, green splat) and a mixed review on Rotten Tomatoes. On the other hand, viewers were captivated by The Stath’s performance in a mission reminiscent of Taken, giving A Working Man an impressive “verified hot” score of 87% on the Popcornmeter.
Similar to “The Beekeeper,” which is now receiving a sequel, “A Working Man” has a strong potential to initiate another action series for Statham. Although no continuation has been officially announced, the film subtly hints at further installments, as Julian Roman from MovieWeb suggests that there are numerous other Levon Cade novels waiting to be adapted into movies.
In “A Working Man,” directed by David Ayer and starring Jason Statham, ruthless human traffickers receive their due punishment in a high-octane action film that delivers on its promise. Sylvester Stallone has adapted the script from Chuck Dixon’s novel “Levon’s Trade,” the first book in a well-known series of twelve. With the scent of a potential franchise in the air, prepare yourself for familiar character types: a damsel in distress, detestable villains, and a hero who is unjustly maligned while fighting for justice against overwhelming odds. While there aren’t many plot twists, you’ll leave the theater satisfied with an entertaining experience.
