Dungeons of Hinterberg Publisher Acquired by Nazara Technologies for $29 Million

The gaming publisher known as Curve Games, which produces hits such as Humans Fall Flat, has been taken over by the Indian tech firm, Nazara Technologies. This acquisition is worth approximately 248 Crore Indian Rupees (around $29 million USD), and gives Nazara control of Curve Games from its previous owners, Catalis Group.

In a statement released to the press, Shaon Baylay, chair of Catalis Group, expressed pride in having Curve Games – a multiple award-winning publisher of exceptional indie games – as part of our organization. Yet, he acknowledges that they will reach even greater heights under Nazara Technologies’ wing. We express our gratitude for the achievements of the Curve Games team and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

Through the acquisition, Nazara has taken over as the main company for developers under Curve Games – Runner Duck based in Brighton, UK and IronOak Games from Vancouver, Canada. Currently, there are no plans announced by Nazara to alter personnel at this time, with Curve Games continuing its operations out of London. The current leadership within Curve Games will remain in place.

Curve Games executive chairman Stuart Dinsey stated, “This partnership is a seamless match for us.” We’re joining forces with a community deeply invested in gaming and technology, particularly mobile, where we’ve hardly ventured so far. With Nazara, we can further expand our reach on console and PC, while maintaining our independent spirit. It’s all about exceptional games, outstanding studios, and dedicated players. Our new journey begins here.

In simple terms, this recent purchase marks Nazara’s second takeover of a British company. Previously, in 2024, they had already acquired Fusebox Games, a company renowned for creating smartphone games based on reality TV shows. The games under Fusebox’s portfolio include “Love Island The Game” and “Love Villa”.

Nitish Mittersain, CEO of Nazara, stated that Curve’s demonstrated publishing skills and successful collaborations with independent studios align perfectly with Nazara’s premium gaming ambitions. This acquisition not only adds essential intellectual property, worldwide market connections, and an accomplished team to our roster – it also underscores our broader plan to intensify our focus on core gaming. We aim to amplify top-tier game IPs, pour resources into innovative development, and champion dedicated indie developers as we construct a globally influential gaming empire from India.

It appears that the acquisition was strategically included in Nazara’s plans to broaden its presence within the gaming sector. Previously, they announced a $100 million fund designated specifically for this purpose.

The most recent game launched by Curve Games is “Badlands Crew,” developed by Runner Duck. This is the third installment in their Crew series, which was made available for PC (through Steam) in April. The game centers around players designing and personalizing a land vehicle equipped with weaponry and necessary gear to overcome the harsh challenges of the Badlands.

Apart from the title mentioned, Curve Studios has also released other well-known games, like the single-player action-adventure game “Dungeons of Hinterberg“. This game can be played on both PCs and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
