More details concerning Joe Biden‘s prostate cancer diagnosis have come to light.
In the days following the announcement from the former U.S. President about his diagnosis with an advanced stage of the illness, his representative clarified his health status and dismissed unfounded rumors suggesting he had secretly fought the disease while still in office, ending in January.
The representative informed NBC News on May 20th that the last time President Biden was known to have undergone a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test, which is often used for detecting prostate cancer, was in 2014. It should be noted that prior to Friday, President Biden had never received a diagnosis of prostate cancer.
The statement follows in response to President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., making fun of the news about Vice President Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis. He questioned how Dr. Jill Biden, who earned her doctorate in education and is not a medical doctor, could have “mistaken stage five metastatic cancer.
The 47-year-old continued on X, formerly Twitter, “Or is this yet another coverup???”
As an ardent admirer, I’ve got some news that’s hit me hard. On May 16th, it was announced that our beloved leader, President Biden, had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. In a statement released on May 18th, his team revealed the cancer was classified as “Grade Group 5,” scoring a Gleason score of 9. Heartbreakingly, it seems this cancer has also spread to his bones. I’m sending all my love and positive vibes to Joe during these challenging times.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it like this: “This form of the disease is more aggressive, but since it’s hormone-sensitive, we have an opportunity to manage it effectively. The President and his loved ones are currently discussing potential treatments with their doctors.
In response to his diagnosis, Biden too voiced his appreciation for the overwhelming display of sympathy that he received.
He expressed on Instagram, on May 19th, that cancer affects everyone. Just as many others, Jill and I discovered that our strength lies in our vulnerabilities. We’re grateful for the outpouring of love and support you’ve shown us during this time.
Among those supporting him was President Trump, who expressed sadness upon learning about Vice President Joe Biden’s recent health condition, along with First Lady Melania Trump.
The President expressed his heartfelt and sincere well-wishes towards Jill and her family on his Truth Social account on May 18. He also wishes Joe a swift and complete recovery.
For everything to know about the Biden family, read on.
At the age of 30, Joe Biden tragically lost his wife Neilia Hunter Biden and their infant daughter Naomi in a car accident in 1972. After this heartbreaking event, Senator Joe Biden dedicated himself to raising his sons Beau and Hunter, and temporarily set aside romantic relationships.
Frank Biden had given him Jill Jacobs’ phone number a few years ago, and that’s when he started using the stove – not before then.
In his 2007 memoir, “Promises to Keep“, Joe expressed that finding love once more with the future first lady restored his life. He began to harbor hopes that his family could potentially reunite as a whole once more.
Joe and Jill married on June 17, 1977.
Frequently, the president often refers to his deceased son, Beau Biden III, who served as an Army major and Delaware’s attorney general for two terms. Tragically, he passed away from glioblastoma in 2015 at the young age of 46.
Joe shared with the New York Times that Beau lived by a strong sense of honor as stated in his 2017 memoir, “Promise Me, Dad”. Although it might seem odd, this statement is accurate. My father had a saying: ‘Never explain and never complain’. I can assure you, Beau never complained, not even once.
During one of the final nights of Beau’s life, as Joe described it, his son seemed to confront his own mortality. He witnessed Beau go through the heartache of losing his mother and sister. Rather than letting him retreat or surrender to despair, he encouraged Beau not to withdraw from the vibrancy of life.
During his brother’s funeral tribute, Hunter shared his initial recollection of Beau, which occurred at the hospital in 1972 following the car accident that claimed their mother and sister: He awoke next to him.
On the eve of his inauguration in January 2020, at a National Guard/Army Reserve center honoring his son, Joe expressed his heartfelt pride in hailing from Delaware.
He also felt a great sense of pride being at this location, carrying out these duties, from the Major Beau Biden facility. To put it simply, my only sorrow is that he isn’t here with us. We should have been presenting him as our President instead.
Back in 2002, I was fortunate enough to tie the knot with the exceptional woman known as Hallie Biden (née Olivere). Our union has been blessed with two beautiful children: Natalie Naomi Biden, born in 2004, and Robert Hunter Biden II, who joined our family in 2006.
In 2016, after the demise of his son Beau, Joe chose not to contest for president. However, Ron Olivere, Hallie’s father, revealed to Delaware’s News Journal that Joe sought advice from his daughter before he ever contemplated running.
“Her response,” Ron said, “was, ‘Pop, we’re behind you all the way. We’re behind you 100 percent.'”
Natalie, who was 10 when her father passed away, expressed on TODAY before her grandfather’s inauguration in January 2020 that Thanksgiving is probably our most cherished holiday. She explained that the reason for this fondness stems from the fact that as a family, which includes her cousin Maisy, grandpa, uncle, and late father, they would usually visit Nantucket. During November, they would participate in the Polar Bear plunge together.
In the year 2023, she completed her graduation from St. Andrew’s School, which served as a filming location for “Dead Poets Society,” situated in Middletown, Delaware. Subsequently, she chose to attend the University of Pennsylvania, an institution that holds significance for her father as his alma mater.
Natalie attended a May 2024 State Dinner for the president of Kenya with date Rafael Hajjar.
Hunter, the son of Beau and Hallie who bears his uncle’s name, tends to keep a low profile in his personal life. However, he has made appearances at significant family gatherings such as inaugurations.
In March 2020, during a townhall discussion hosted by Anderson Cooper on CNN, Joe mentioned that Beau’s children reside close to him and Jill in Delaware. With social distancing being essential at the time, we often spend time on our back porch while they sit on their lawn with two chairs placed there. We engage in conversations about their daily experiences, such as being away from school, who is causing them trouble, and so forth.
In 2021, the president and his wife were present at the confirmation ceremony of their grandson, which took place at their regular church, St. Joseph on the Brandywine, a church they have been attending for a long time.
Robert Hunter Biden, born on February 4, 1970, is a Yale Law School alumnus who has openly discussed his fight against addiction issues and various personal challenges in life.
In June 2024, it was determined that he lied twice about his drug usage on a federal background check form for obtaining a firearm and once for possessing a gun while under the influence or addicted to illegal substances – all classified as felonies. Before his father granted him a pardon in December, he was potentially facing up to 25 years in prison.
Hunter also pled guilty to tax-avoidance charges in September.
2020 saw Hunter largely missing from his father’s campaign rallies amidst a flurry of unfavorable news reports.
or
In the face of numerous negative news articles, Hunter was seldom present at his father’s campaign events in 2020.
or
During the 2020 campaign season, it was mostly headlines rather than appearances by Hunter at his father’s events that dominated the news.
Each of these sentences maintains the original meaning while providing a fresh and easy-to-read alternative.
Hunter shared with The New Yorker in 2019 that he and Beau have been by his side since their carriers took them to the first campaign, implying from a very young age. They attended every significant and minor event related to his political career, and Hunter never skipped one of his father’s rallies. The idea of not being with him in Philadelphia, near the Rocky statue, is emotionally devastating for Hunter. It’s causing both pain and distress, and he questions the cost involved. His parents, too, encourage his presence, but at what personal expense?
In August 2020, Hunter (who addressed remotely during the Democratic National Convention when his father accepted the party’s nomination) was present in person at the victory speech of the president-elect on November 7th in Wilmington.
And despite his troubles, Hunter remains one of the president’s closest advisors.
In 1993, the individual who graduated from Yale Law School tied the knot with Kathleen Buhle. Together, they are parents to three girls: Naomi King Biden (born on December 23, 1993), Finnegan Biden (born on September 9, 2000), and Maisy Biden (born in 2001).
In 2015, the couple parted ways, with Kathleen stating drug abuse and infidelity as some of the reasons for their marital issues when she filed for divorce later on.
In my fervent admiration, let me share how I, being captivated by the heartwarming tale, would rephrase it:
“Following the unfortunate demise of my beloved brother Beau, I found solace in the companionship of his wife, Hallie. We’ve been truly blessed to discover a love and backing that has been a beacon for us during our hardships, a fact not lost on those closest to us as they’ve witnessed our journey. In a declaration to Page Six when the news broke in March 2017, I expressed that we’ve been fortunate to have family and friends who have stood by us every step of the way.
The oldest offspring of the Hunter completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by enrollment at Columbia Law School. Currently, they are an associate at Arnold & Porter.
Coincidentally, Naomi and Tiffany Trump went to Penn at the same time. Interestingly enough, both Donald Trump (future president) and Joe Biden attended their graduation in 2016. In the summer of 2018, Tiffany even posted a picture of her and Naomi enjoying time together in the Hamptons.
Naomi mentioned that her grandfather, who spent two terms as Vice President under Barack Obama, is always ready to take a call from any of his grandchildren, regardless of time or place.
She mentioned during an interview on PBS Newshour in August 2020 that he would be delivering a speech on stage, and when we called him, he would respond with, “What’s up?!
For several months prior to their November 19, 2022 wedding on the South Lawn, Naomi and now-spouse Peter Neal resided with her grandparents at the White House, taking care of the wedding preparations together.
After her wedding, Naomi said to Vogue, “I make an effort to remember it’s the White House, but with time, it becomes less extraordinary and more ordinary.
On election day Nov. 5, Naomi announced she and her husband were expecting their first child.
Hunter and Kathleen decided to honor Hunter’s paternal grandmother by naming their second child after her. They chose the name Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Finnegan for their little one.
In 2021, she completed her education at the University of Pennsylvania, and since then, she’s been a frequent attendee at significant events in Washington D.C. and various international locations. For instance, in April 2023, she joined grandma Jill to witness the coronation ceremony of King Charles III.
In the year 2023, the President and his spouse attended the graduation ceremony at Penn University, where Hunter and Kathleen’s youngest child received their diploma.
Although Finnegan’s sister keeps her Instagram private, feel free to explore Maisie’s artworks and peeks into her daily life on her publicly accessible account instead.
As a lifestyle expert, I too appreciate the art of smart dressing. I opted for a structured suit, donning a dark jacket and matching trousers, at my grandfather’s inauguration. The event required an air of formality, and Air Jordans added a touch of contemporary flair to the traditional attire. For a more formal occasion such as the October 2023 White House State Dinner for the Australian Prime Minister, I chose a Brooks Brothers pinstripe suit, its classic design fitting perfectly with the elegance of the event.
Back in May 2019, Hunter tied the knot with Melissa Cohen, a filmmaker from South Africa, during a rooftop wedding in Los Angeles. Their romance blossomed over a series of weeks before they decided to make it official.
As reported by the New Yorker, only a few days following their initial date, Hunter got a tattoo on the inside of his left arm which read “shalom” in Hebrew – a term that means both greeting, farewell, and peace, mirroring Melissa’s existing ink. Five days later, on May 15th, he popped the question to her.
The following morning, she agreed, so he arranged for wedding rings, as well as a marriage ceremony, which was facilitated by an officiant who was sent over.
Hunter shared with the magazine that he phoned his father to announce their marriage. His father was on speakerphone and responded by expressing gratitude for empowering him to love again. Furthermore, his father expressed that when Hunter found love again, he’d get him back. In response, Hunter said, “Dad, I’ve always had love. The only thing that helped me see it was the fact that you never stopped believing in me.
Hunter and Melissa welcomed son Joseph Robinette “Beau” Biden IV on March 28, 2020.
2019 found me, the devoted fan, embroiled in a child support lawsuit, as Lunden Alexis Roberts claimed I was the father of her little one, Navy, who made her grand entrance into the world in August 2018.
Initially, he asserted that he wasn’t involved in a romantic encounter with Lunden. However, a court in Arkansas approved a paternity order in January 2020, after a DNA test confirmed that he was indeed the biological father of the child.
According to CNBC, the hunter later consented to a regular, unspecified sum for child support payments.
Recognizing that he now has seven grandchildren for the first time, the president made a statement to People magazine saying, “Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are collaborating to build a relationship that prioritizes their daughter’s well-being while respecting her privacy in the future.
He added, “This isn’t about politics; it’s a personal concern. Jill and I are merely seeking the well-being of all our grandchildren, with Navy being no exception.
On June 9, 1981, Joe and Jill Biden were pleased to welcome their sole shared child, Ashley Blazer Biden, into the world.
In 2010, a graduate from Tulane University earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice. Since then, she has served as the Associate Director at the Delaware Center for Justice for over seven years.
In the year 2017, Ashley established the clothing label Livelihood. The emblem she designed for it – the letters ‘LH’ intersected by an arrow – serves as a memorial to her deceased brother, Beau.
Ashley clarified to The Lily in June 2020 that there were times when she needed a strong push to move ahead swiftly. She described him as her bow, and his cancer caused her to stumble and fall. However, with no other options available, she was compelled to press forward, continue moving, and persistently aim for her own aspirations.
Joe expressed his immense pride to TopMob News as she unveiled her collection at New York Fashion Week,” he said. “Ever since she was just three years old, she’s been striving to change the world, and I truly believe she will succeed in this mission.
Ashley shared with us today that she intends to utilize her position as the first daughter to champion social justice, mental health awareness, and actively participate in community improvement and regeneration.
In response to the harsh criticism targeted at her family, particularly her father and brother Hunter, she shared with Elle magazine in 2023, “The true display of strength lies in remaining compassionate despite the increasing rudeness of the world.
She didn’t hold back her anger. Instead, she expressed it as a natural reaction when someone you deeply care for is criticized, stating, “There are things circulating that are simply untrue and nonsense.
In my own words, let me share a fascinating tale about how I crossed paths with my partner, Dr. Howard – a renowned plastic surgeon, esteemed professor of otolaryngology, and the leading medical executive at StartUp Health. Our paths intertwined through the charismatic Beau, who played cupid in our unique connection.
The physician sought approval from his future father-in-law (which he received), and then proposed to Ashley as the sun set on a cliff in Big Sur, California. Later in June 2012, they got married in an interfaith ceremony, combining Catholic and Jewish traditions, at the same church in Delaware where she was baptized.
Joe shared with People before his daughter’s wedding that it seemed like time had flown by so fast, saying ‘Oh dear, my little girl! I never thought this day would come.’ However, he also expressed that the groom is indeed the right man, and he’s marrying an extraordinary woman.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary bond between Joe and his sister Valerie Biden Owens. For nearly five decades, she has been an integral part of his political journey, often seen by my side on various campaign trails throughout his life. Not only is she his beloved elder sibling, but she also serves as his trusted political advisor, guiding him with wisdom and experience that few can match.
In her interview with Axios following his victory in the 2020 election, she said we often perceive him as an eloquent speaker. To put it another way, whenever you see Biden, he’s always talking, but let me tell you, my brother is a far better listener.
When asked about a nickname for him upon his official presidency, Valerie replied, “I’d call him Joey or just Joe.” Alternatively, “If he refers to me as First Sister, I will address him as Mr. President.
Naomi tweeted on October 22, 2020, during the final stretch of the presidential campaign: “If you’re aiming for @JoeBiden, you’ll need to go through us first…We might not appear intimidating, but remember, our Grandma is @DrBiden.
Later on, she posted a picture showing her oldest grandchildren embracing their grandfather after learning about his election victory on November 7, 2020 in the morning.
