Battlefield Labs Kicks Off Next Playtest on May 23 in Europe, North America and Asia to Test Servers

EA has shared that it’s launching a new phase of testing for its upcoming Battlefield title through Battlefield Labs, starting on May 23. This time, the emphasis will be on improving server performance. In a detailed update on social media site X, the team also confirmed that this playtest will run for a span of 72 hours and will test pre-alpha servers in regions across Europe, North America, and certain parts of Asia.

The test is exclusively by invitation, sending out email confirmations to those who registered for the Battlefield Labs program, indicating their selection.

The company has stated that their main concern during this upcoming test is ensuring server performance and stability as more players join over the weekend. During this period, only a few maps and game modes will be accessible. The server performance test will last for 72 hours in all regions before access to the game is removed for participants once it’s completed.

Starting May 23, 10 AM Central European Summer Time (CEST), invitations for the test will begin to be distributed progressively. This gradual process allows more players to participate in the playtest, helping us put our servers through a rigorous stress test. Keep in mind that those invited to the playtest are required to sign an Nondisclosure Agreement (NDA) before they can access the game, which means they will not be able to discuss any details about it.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been thrilled to learn that EA has been inviting gamers from various parts of the globe into the Battlefield Labs playtests this month. They’ve shared some exciting updates about the advancements in the upcoming Battlefield game, which is largely due to the playtests they kicked off earlier this year. Gamers like me across North America and Europe have been privileged to participate by playing early versions of the multiplayer shooter for countless hours. We’ve contributed significantly with “hundreds of thousands of player spawns” and “over a million environmental objects demolished.

The company emphasizes that brainstorming innovative concepts for the future and gathering immediate player input is essential in the Battlefield Labs approach. This process, though some ideas may not make it to launch, aids us in identifying and improving aspects that strike a chord with players. We’ve found this journey to be both enlightening and exhilarating for our team and community. Excitedly, we anticipate further collaboration with you as we move forward in developing Battlefield together!

During a recent earnings discussion, Electronic Arts (EA) CEO Andrew Wilson mentioned that the ongoing tests at Battlefield Labs have been successful and represented “the largest playtesting effort in franchise history.” Furthermore, he disclosed that the less-than-favorable response to Battlefield 2042 prompted EA to seek increased player feedback through multiple rounds of testing.

Wilson remarked, “We’ve collaborated with the community for a long time, but sometimes not as closely as necessary. It’s been a miss on our part to not fully communicate what we’re creating and to truly grasp their expectations for a Battlefield. We recognize that when we align these aspects correctly, Battlefield becomes an enormous franchise, often the leading shooter game in a given year.

Wilson is feeling hopeful that Battlefield 6 might come out towards the end of this year, given that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been pushed back to May 26, 2026. Nevertheless, there’s currently no definite release date for Battlefield 6.
