Although the Internet may lead you to believe that Sony primarily focuses on expensive single-player titles and live services, delve a bit deeper and you’ll discover the company is actively collaborating with independent teams to bring their games to life. The China Hero Project and India Hero Project are examples of such initiatives, and recently, the latter unveiled a new game as part of its collection.

Mukti, a creation from underDOGS studio, is being developed under the supervision of the India Hero Project, sponsored by PlayStation. This project, born from “years filled with hard work, love, and unyielding enthusiasm”, centers around themes of heritage, exploration, and redemption, all unfolding within an Indian museum. The game’s PS Store wishlist page hints that it will tackle the challenging issue of human trafficking.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Vaibhav Chavan – founder and game director – expressed his pride in being involved with the India Hero Project. He noted that this project reinforced the studio’s conviction that Indian narratives should be shared globally. After more than a year of collaborating closely with Sony’s talented team, he described the experience as both enlightening and educational.

Mukti will employ a 4K resolution and boast all functionalities of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, as described by Chavan: “After the enigmatic disappearance of her grandfather amid allegations of heinous crimes, Arya comes back to discover the museum she inherited in ruins. Through the hushed whispers of yesteryears, she reconstructs a story of lineage, empathy, and hidden truths, challenging everything she believed about his life. What secrets are concealed within her grandfather’s museum?

If you find Mukti appealing, please consider adding the game to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store. By doing so, you help an independent studio from India gain visibility. This demonstrates global interest in Indian narratives and showcases the potential for top-tier console games that tell these stories. Your action could pave the way not only for Mukti but also for a new wave of Indian game developers.
