Xbox dominates April 2025 sales charts in the US as Oblivion Remastered sells far faster than the original game

In April 2025, the top-selling video game in the U.S., according to recent sales data, was The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on Xbox platforms, setting it apart as the front-runner among games sold that month.

According to the executive director and analyst at Circana, Mat Piscatella, he recently disclosed on Wednesday via Bluesky some insights about the top-selling video games in the United States for the current month.

In April alone, Oblivion Remastered proved to be the top-selling game and, remarkably, it has since climbed to become the third highest-selling title of the year thus far. According to Piscatella’s analysis, this remastered version sold significantly more copies than the original Oblivion did during its first 15 months on the market.

4 million gamers quickly jumped into Oblivion Remastered, as reported by Bethesda Game Studios soon after its release.

The sales success of Xbox games persisted, as Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle secured the second and sixth positions respectively. This was largely due to the release of PlayStation 5 versions of these games in April. Moreover, Piscatella notes that half of the top seven best-selling PlayStation games for April were owned by Microsoft.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the best-selling game of March, fell to fifth place.

In terms of hardware, the PlayStation 5 saw a 5% decrease compared to last year, nevertheless, it retained the top spot in both unit and revenue sales. The Xbox hardware came in second place in both categories, experiencing an 8% increase in sales year-on-year.

For the past month, there was a 3% decrease in gaming expenditures compared to last year, amounting to approximately $4.1 billion. Notably, Piscatella highlighted an 18% increase in spending on non-mobile subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass when compared to the same period last year.

It’s important to note that Circana monitors game sales based on revenue, rather than the number of copies sold. Certain publishers such as Nintendo withhold digital data, while independent developers like Larian do not disclose any data at all.
