The initial sneak peek for the upcoming “Wicked: For Good” movie, due out in November this fall, has been released on the official Wicked Movie account (previously known as Twitter). This short video serves as a reminder that half a year from now, specifically May 21st, audiences will be able to watch “Wicked: For Good” in theaters. The clip opens with a broken glass window and follows with ominous title cards hinting at the movie’s release date. At this time, it has not been confirmed when the full trailer for the film will be unveiled; however, the studio is currently building anticipation leading up to its premiere.
The timer starts now,” says the message. “Six months from now, we’re off to Oz again.”
Or more informally:
“We’re setting the clock for a trip back to Oz in six months!
The countdown begins. In six months, return to Oz. #WickedForGood

The highly anticipated sequel, “Wicked: For Good“, is expected to be one of the top films in 2025. Last year’s release of “Wicked” was a massive success, earning $755.7 million globally and receiving multiple awards, even a Best Picture nomination. Universal is aiming to repeat this triumph by releasing “Wicked: For Good” during the profitable pre-Thanksgiving slot. Notably, “Wicked” managed to thrive amidst competition from upcoming films like “Moana 2” and “Gladiator 2“.
Even though the marketing campaign for the “Wicked: For Good” film isn’t fully active yet, Universal gave a sneak peek of it during CinemaCon last month. The attendees were treated to the movie’s first poster, which highlighted fresh costumes for Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (portrayed by Ariana Grande).
If a trailer for “Wicked: For Good” is due within the next few days, it’s likely that Universal would have already made an announcement about it by now. This is typical for big-budget movies like this one. However, this post could hint that the promotional campaign for “Wicked: For Good” might start soon. Interestingly, Universal is also the studio behind this summer’s most anticipated film, “Jurassic World Rebirth”, as per a Fandango poll. It wouldn’t be uncommon to find a teaser trailer for “Wicked” attached to screenings of “Jurassic World”, building excitement for Universal’s upcoming holiday blockbuster.
In terms of box office sales, it’s likely that “Wicked: For Good” will match its predecessor’s success. Except for “Zootopia 2,” it doesn’t seem to have much direct competition and has a relatively unobstructed path leading up to the release of “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” The initial “Wicked” movie demonstrated that it could hold its own against a Disney animated sequel, so the second film should fare well financially. It will be intriguing to find out if “Wicked: For Good” can also achieve critical acclaim. Typically, part two films don’t receive as much recognition from award voters as the original films (for instance, “Dune: Part Two”). However, the success in awards consideration for “Wicked: For Good” will largely depend on how the rest of this year’s awards race unfolds. Universal will make every effort to keep “Wicked: For Good” relevant in the discussions.
