As per a report, it appears that Microsoft is considering porting several Xbox games to the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. A leaker has lent credence to this claim by mentioning specific titles, although one notable game, Hellblade 2, has been confirmed for PlayStation 5. The speculation about further Microsoft gaming titles appearing on other platforms has gained traction online, with users querying a prominent leaker about potential releases on Nintendo’s systems. If true, the new Switch 2 could host some significant online Xbox games; however, it seems that a game earmarked for PS5 is not currently being developed for the Switch 2.
According to leaker NateTheHate on ResetEra, corroborating a report from The Verge, there might be some Xbox games being adapted for Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Switch 2. NateTheHate claims that Sea of Thieves and Halo: The Master Chief Collection could potentially appear on Switch 2, but there are no current plans for Gears of War: Reloaded. He added that Microsoft is looking to provide extensive support for multiplatform publishing in the current era, however, many anticipated Xbox titles do not currently have Switch 2 versions in development.
Gears Of War Could Still Happen On Switch 2
But Likely Not By This August
NateTheHate declared that at this moment, there is no active development on a Switch 2 port for “Gears of War: Reloaded”, an updated remaster of the original 2006 “Gears” game released on Xbox 360. However, he suggests that if Microsoft decides to make it happen, we might see it. He also hints that it’s unlikely for a Switch 2 version of Reloaded to coincide with the release date of the Xbox and PlayStation 5 versions, so fans shouldn’t anticipate seeing it in August.
It’s possible that “Sea of Thieves” and “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” might come out not long after the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. With Nintendo targeting the sale of 20 million Switch 2 units within its first fiscal year, popular multiplayer games from Xbox could boost the platform’s popularity. This is especially true if these games maximize the console’s GameChat feature. Both companies may disclose more information about their release plans this summer, possibly during Summer Games Fest, which means fans could learn about these potential ports by then.
The Switch 2’s Power Is Great For Xbox Games
Microsoft Can Expand Its Multi-Platform Strategy
While the Switch 2 may not match the technological prowess of a PlayStation 5 or even a PS5 Pro, its enhanced power compared to the original Switch makes it a more feasible option for Xbox games adaptations. Previously, Microsoft has shown goodwill towards Nintendo, porting games like the “Ori” series, “Pentiment,” and “Grounded” onto the initial Switch version. Interestingly, “Hi-Fi Rush” was not among them, possibly due to technical constraints; however, a Switch 2 adaptation could be more practical.
Moving ahead, it’s possible that we might witness an increase in Microsoft-owned games appearing on the hypothetical Switch 2. This could involve titles being released later than their Xbox counterparts, as with “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” or simultaneously like “DOOM: The Dark Ages.” Interestingly, it’s likely that Call of Duty games will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, if we were to see characters such as Master Chief or Marcus Fenix on a Nintendo platform, it would indeed feel like witnessing flying pigs.
