If something functions effectively, it works, and for Jason Statham, this translates to delivering intense action films on the big screen. His movies have been dominating streaming platforms lately, indicating a massive audience appeal, and they’ve also done well financially. Interestingly, Statham has even headlined two monster-themed films in recent years, beginning with “The Meg” in 2018, followed by the sequel, “Meg 2: The Trench,” five years later.
In addition to the English actor for both films, Page Kennedy was present as well. Since then, he’s been involved in numerous other projects, such as the creature feature A Breed Apart. Recently, MovieWeb had a conversation with the actor and rapper about his impressive role in Lionsgate’s latest horror production. During this chat, Kennedy also reminisced about his time on the pair of Meg movies. He even shared an intriguing story from the sequel involving his co-star Statham.
Kennedy shared with MovieWeb that the second “Meg” movie was filmed in London during winter, and there was a scene where they were on a boat in the water, feeling incredibly cold. Kennedy added that even the most talented actor can’t hide their physical reactions when the body is exposed to freezing temperatures. Kennedy also mentioned that Jason Statham had taught them a unique breathing technique he learned from military personnel, which helps generate heat within the body by controlling breath. Kennedy found this fascinating and admired Statham for his extensive knowledge and diverse experiences in the film industry.
“Being Marooned” in A Breed Apart
Transitioning from confronting a colossal shark in “The Meg” to defending against a different aggressive species, Kennedy’s latest film, titled “A Breed Apart“, is set on an isolated island inhabited by vicious dogs. Kennedy drew attention to the similarity between the ‘creature feature’ aspects of his new movie and “The Meg”.
In a group of diverse individuals united by a common purpose – survival – finding ourselves stranded somewhere and relying on each other for assistance in escaping, with the constant threat of individuals being eliminated one at a time, reminds me of something familiar. It’s engaging to be part of such a team, observing how remarkably distinct these characters can be.
Over time, supporters of Kennedy have come to recognize that beyond his acting career, he’s an active rapper and a prominent figure on social media, even going back to the days of Vine. So, it’s no wonder that his character as an influencer in “A Breed Apart” feels like a tailor-made fit for him. In other words, playing this role was a natural choice for him because he has practical knowledge about all these aspects.
