This fall, Othello is returning to the West End with prominent actors from Homeland and Mr. Bates vs The Post Office in leading roles.
David Harewood OBE will reprise his role as the main character in a tragedy for the first time since 1997, marking his debut as the first black actor to portray this role on stage at the National Theatre.
In the upcoming production, Toby Jones portrayed by Mr. Bates and Caitlin Fitzgerald known from Succession are set to join the cast, with Toby playing Iago and Caitlin taking on the role of Desdemona.
Starting this October through January, the Shakespearean tragedy will commandeer the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with acclaimed Tony Award-winner Tom Morris at its helm.
After last week’s announcement, Harewood expressed his enthusiasm by saying: “I am thrilled to take on this significant role once more. Last time, I was acutely aware of shattering a specific glass ceiling and may have felt its pressure. This time, there are no worries and I can’t wait to begin anew.
Jones mentioned, “I’m looking forward to the rehearsals for Othello alongside David Harewood, Caitlin FitzGerald, and Tom Morris. I’m doing my utmost to get ready to dive deep into this complex, tragicomic, enigmatic universe.
Morris’s modern adaptations of Shakespeare’s works are set to debut as the initial installment of a five-year series scheduled for performance at the West End.
Tickets for the show go on sale from today, so here’s what you need to know.
