Final Fantasy 7 Remake does an impressive job in nearly every aspect, be it its gameplay or storyline. It’s challenging to find fault with this JRPG title, as for this RPG enthusiast, it delivers a flawless experience. Granted, critics might argue about the abundance of mini-games, some of which are enjoyable, while others may feel like they were designed to test one’s patience. However, aside from that minor issue, the game is almost faultless overall.
Almost flawless, but there’s a single aspect that falls short, and it’s unrelated to the mentioned controversial mini-games. Many might wish to eliminate this part from Rebirth entirely, given its flaws, and I can empathize with that sentiment. However, if executed skillfully, this problematic element could potentially enrich one of the series’ strengths: its characters, by providing deeper insights into them.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Cait Sith Mission Is Dreadful
It Is Easily One Of The Worst Parts Of The Game
When discussing the contentious aspects of FF7 Rebirth that often come to mind, it’s usually the mini-games that catch attention. To clarify, while some mini-games like Queen’s Blood are highly enjoyable, others unfortunately detract from the overall experience. It’s important to note that these mini-games don’t make the game bad; instead, they fail to enhance it in any way. Nevertheless, for me, the aspect of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth that I find most disappointing is Cait Sith’s mission.
This level might become notorious for being one of gaming’s most challenging and tedious, primarily due to its lengthy duration that transforms a brief part from the original game into an excruciatingly long, hour-long ordeal. Its complexity is so confounding that it’s astonishing anyone approved it. For those who may not be aware or have wisely forgotten this experience, Cait Sith’s mission involves controlling him as he navigates Shinra Manor in an attempt to assist others in passing through.
While I wholeheartedly acknowledge that Rebirth continues to be one of the greatest RPGs ever made, I must confess that revisiting certain parts of it has become a challenge for me lately. The image of me, stuck on Cait Sith’s moogle, inching along while trying to hurl crates at a switch, lingers uncomfortably in my dreams. Admittedly, this might be an overstatement, but the slow pace of that particular mission, its unbalanced battles, and the vexing boss fight make it the game’s most problematic element. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that the upcoming Remake Part 3 ought to incorporate something akin to this experience.
Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 Needs More Puzzle-Based Missions
They Help Spice Up The Story
Before critics of Cait Sith start shouting their disapproval at their screens, I must admit that the puzzle-driven nature of this mission combined with Cait Sith’s combat and movement abilities is quite intriguing. While it’s true that similar mechanics have been used in other games, there’s a unique charm to how Final Fantasy VII Rebirth blended Cait Sith’s battle and navigation skills into the very essence of this mission, which follows a linear, puzzle-centric design. Despite some criticism, there is potential here that could be effectively utilized if handled appropriately.
It’s likely that Part 3 won’t be an open-world game, or it will have fewer expansive areas if it is. In this case, the developers will need to enrich its linear sequences to prevent player boredom with repetitive combat and exploration sections. Since Remake was innovative at its release and relatively short, it could pull off this structure. However, if Part 3 aims for a similar length as Rebirth, it needs more content to keep players engaged, as Remake’s offering might not be enough to sustain interest over an extended playtime.
Of course, I think character-centric puzzle missions are an ideal solution, given the extensive cast we can expect in Part 3. These missions, modeled after the Cait Sith one but with improved balance and excitement, could keep gameplay fresh while encouraging players to connect with each character on a deeper level. This would not only spice up the gameplay but also provide Square Enix an opportunity to showcase their exceptional level design skills and offer additional depth to Cloud’s team that wasn’t present in the original Final Fantasy 7 adventure. In essence, it appears to be a mutually beneficial approach.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3‘s Characters Need To Feel More Important To Gameplay
They Should All Get Their Own Unique Puzzle-Based Mission
In the upcoming third part of the Final Fantasy Remake, it’s expected that characters like Vincent Valentine and Cid will join the playable roster. I’m curious to see how they handle missions similar to those of Cait Sith. For instance, Vincent might employ his pistols to blow up crates much like the mine cart segment in Rebirth, while Cid could be tasked with tackling challenging aerial obstacles on the Highwind. Additionally, there may be missions for the original cast members too; Tifa could be seen leaping and somersaulting through a tricky laser-filled maze, or Cait Sith might get another chance to knock over crates at switches.
Absolutely, these new ideas need to be significantly more engaging and detailed than what Rebirth provided, or they might come across as mere mini-games. It’s crucial that they aren’t confined to side quests in Part 3, as players might overlook them. I’m curious to see how Square Enix can enhance upon the attempts made in Rebirth, as it seems like the trend for this remake since its inception. They should get another opportunity to correct their past mistakes and make Part 3 the best game in the series.
Fundamentally, there are numerous aspects in Part 3 of “Rebirth” that need refinement, including Cait Sith’s dismal mission. Despite the unpleasantness and the annoyance it causes when revisiting Shinra Manor, I am convinced that with careful consideration and enhancement, these elements could significantly surpass Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and create a genuinely captivating linear single-player JRPG experience in Part 3. Square Enix has the potential to expand on the initial ideas and bring them to life more fully in this sequel. Although it may not appeal to everyone, I firmly believe that with thoughtful development, these improvements could elevate Part 3 above Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and make it a truly compelling journey.
