In simpler terms, although Big Mouth has been a long-standing and reliable success for Netflix, it’s wrapping up after eight seasons, marking the conclusion of this popular show on their platform.
In simpler terms, “The Series” – jointly created and featuring Nick Kroll from “The Franchise” – explores a band of teenagers navigating the confusing transformations during puberty. It uses lots of crass and absurd humor to illustrate this journey.
The show “Big Mouth” has found success among various age groups, with educators sometimes utilizing it as a teaching tool for adolescents, and older viewers enjoying the fact that they’ve moved beyond the turbulent phase of their lives depicted on the show.
Regardless of the accolades it has earned, such as four Emmy awards for Maya Rudolph’s vocal performance and numerous additional nominations, it appears that Big Mouth will not be renewed for a ninth season on Netflix.
If you’re disappointed, here’s what co-creator Kroll had to say about the difficult decision.
Why won’t there be a Big Mouth season 9?

Nick Kroll, one of the creators of Big Mouth, shared that they chose to conclude the series after its eighth season, mirroring the fact that adolescence is a limited phase in life and growth is an unavoidable part of it.
As a movie critic, I’d put it this way: I strongly believe that it would be a disservice to the heart and soul of a series like “The Simpsons” if the creators were to perpetually preserve the characters in a static state. Instead, they are boldly exploring new directions, testing the boundaries of the show to its very limits.
As I chatted with The Wrap, I shared my thoughts: “We never imagined this series would last an eternity… The essence of adolescence and transformation – stretching it out any longer wouldn’t be fair as these tales are rooted in specific moments in a person’s life.
From the beginning, we’ve aimed to avoid making our characters static and unchanging. It’s fulfilling for us to strive towards resolving their stories instead.
In other words, Kroll seems to suggest the potential for a new series featuring the Big Mouth characters in the future, implying that there are numerous chances to explore these characters at various stages of their lives, perhaps including later periods.
To put it another way, the collaborator mentioned that although it can be intimidating to alter the show’s rhythm by allowing the characters to grow older, this shift also opened up fresh narratives, continually pushing the boundaries of our previous work.
Consequently, if there is a new season of Big Mouth, it might need to abandon the typical humor based on puberty and instead explore comedic possibilities in college life, romantic relationships as adults, job struggles, or even parenthood, among other grown-up topics.
