As Milly Alcock, I’m thrilled to share that my latest project, the Netflix dark comedy series “Sirens,” has been receiving fantastic reviews! Starring alongside heavyweights like Julianne Moore and Meghann Fahy, this show debuted on May 22nd and is already a hit, earning a 73% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Created by Molly Smith Metzler from her play “Elemeno Pea,” the series revolves around my character Simone’s unusual relationship with her billionaire boss, Michaela (played by Moore), which leads to an intense weekend intervention at a luxurious beach estate. The limited five-episode series delves into complex themes such as class, power dynamics, sisterhood, and co-dependency, providing a witty and insightful tale that’s striking a chord with both audiences and critics.
The cast of this production has received high praise from critics, with many singling out Alcock as a particularly outstanding performer. For instance, Therese Lacson from Collider remarked that among the three leading actresses, Alcock was the unexpected star of Sirens, showcasing Simone’s vast emotional spectrum and concealed depths. Furthermore, Kaiya Shunyata from RogerEbert.com commented, “Alcock brings a frenetic energy to each scene in Sirens, much like a feverish spirit.” Additionally, Aramide Tinubu for Variety commended the show’s engaging nature and performances, stating that despite its rapid tempo, captivating scenery, and impressive acting, Sirens is an addictive summer thriller that will hold viewers spellbound until the final moments.
Creator Smith Metzler, famous for her work on “Maid”, has shared that she intended Sirens’ story to be full of bite. In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, she explained, “The story contains genuine dramatic moments, and it might make viewers feel uneasy.” Indeed, Smith Metzler has achieved this, as Alcock’s performance and the series’ unsettling ambiance are often praised, along with its intricate character interactions. For example, The Daily Beast’s Coleman Spilde commented, “Thanks to three compelling lead performances and a script unafraid to delve into the dirty, Sirens is a prickly, thought-provoking, and captivating new thriller.
Milly Alcock Will Be Back As Supergirl in the DCU
Prior to her current acclaim with “Sirens”, Milly Alcock had wrapped up filming for her eagerly awaited portrayal as Kara Zor-El in DC Studios’ “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”. This production is a notable addition to the new DC Universe, with “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” being adapted from the critically acclaimed 8-issue comic book series by Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. In these comics, Supergirl, on her 21st birthday, embarks on a cosmic voyage for vengeance alongside Krypto the Superdog and a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, whose father was slain by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. This adventure propels Kara towards self-exploration concerning her own lineage.
Previously, Gunn mentioned that the upcoming film portrays a grittier and world-weary depiction of Supergirl. Unlike her cousin Superman, Kara Zor-El was brought up on a piece of Krypton where she saw everyone perish, making her more resilient. Gunn is very excited about the project, especially admiring Ana Nogueira’s script, which he found so powerful that it sped up the filming process, placing it as the second movie in the DCU following Gunn’s own Superman film.
As a cinephile, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” directed by Craig Gillespie, renowned for his work on “I, Tonya” and “Cruella.” This intriguing project boasts an impressive cast, including Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl’s father), and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze (Supergirl’s mother). Additionally, Jason Momoa will bring his charisma to the role of fan-favorite intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo.
At present, you can stream Sirens on Netflix. The movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is due for release in cinemas on June 26, 2026.
