As a cinephile eagerly anticipating the return to the big screen, I’ve recently learned some exciting news about the much-adored sequel to my 2004 sports comedy gem, “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.” In this film, you might remember me portraying Peter LaFleur, a casual gym proprietor who dared to step into the arena of high-stakes dodgeball competition, all in a valiant effort to save my business from financial ruin.
As of April 2023, news emerged that a new project for Animaniacs was in its initial stages at 20th Century Studios. Vaughn was slated to reprise his role, and Jordan VanDina, the writer behind the Animaniacs revival, was tasked with writing the script. However, since then, there have been no further updates about this project. In a recent interview, Vaughn shared that while they’ve developed a “solid” concept for the storyline, nothing has been officially finalized yet.
Though he hasn’t made any firm decisions yet, there’s a strong possibility that he might rejoin the franchise when the right moment comes. Vaughn hinted at this by saying, “There are discussions about Dodgeball, and an idea for it has been quite intriguing, but nothing is set in stone as of now. I’m currently working on the second season of Bad Monkey, which I’m excited about, and I have another project in mind that I would definitely…
The actor added, “The key is whether the narrative fits well, and if the addition aligns logically. Some concepts are intriguing with these projects, but you never know how things develop or if they’ll resonate with everyone. However, I’m certainly receptive. I adore many of those films, and would gladly consider a suitable opportunity should it arise.
The film “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” was both penned and helmed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, a director renowned for his contributions to movies like “We’re the Miller” (2013), “Central Intelligence” (2016), and most recently, “Red Notice” (2021). Alongside Vaughn, the movie featured Ben Stiller portraying White Goodman, Christine Taylor as Kate Veatch, Gary Cole as Cotton McKnight, Justin Long as Justin Redman, and Alan Tudyk as Steve.
Jason Bateman played the role of Pepper Brooks, and Rip Torn was Patches O’Houlihan in the film as well. This comedy movie surpassed Steven Spielberg’s drama-comedy starring Tom Hanks, “The Terminal,” during its first week at the box office. Now, it boasts a Tomatometer score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 166 reviews.
What’s Next for Vince Vaughn?
Vaughn’s latest production is a comedy-drama film on Netflix, based on the life of Joe Scaravella, the owner of Enoteca Maria restaurant. The movie gained popularity quickly among subscribers and ranked number one on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 list during Mother’s Day weekend.
In the forthcoming blend of live-action and animation titled “Animal Friends“, Vaughn will make his appearance alongside Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa. At present, he is set to spearhead the upcoming action comedy “Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice”, sharing the screen with James Marsden.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is streaming on Disney+, while Nonnas is streaming on Netflix.
