Coronation Street actor Daniel Brocklebank has confirmed that he is leaving the ITV soap.

For over a decade now, the actor, who portrays the local vicar Billy Mayhew and adoptive father to Summer Spellman (played by Harriet Bibby), has been a consistent presence in the series.

According to The Sun, his character is set to depart the cobblestones by next year, as part of an unannounced significant plot development.

Regarding his decision to leave, Brocklebank shared: “I’ve spent nearly a fourth of my lifespan working on Corrie.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every second spent in that building, and I’ve always eagerly anticipated heading to work.

I have a deep affection for every member of our team here, and although it’s difficult for me to leave, I’m also eagerly looking forward to discovering what lies ahead.

A year ago, I found myself deeply moved by the story of Billy, a character from a film, grappling with the profound sorrow that ensued after his dear partner Paul (Peter Ash) passed away due to Motor Neuron Disease.

Although he seemed to make a positive change in the past few months, it appears his character is about to be removed from the soap opera.

Producer of Coronation Street, Kate Brooks, mentioned that character Billy is set for an extensive plot development in the upcoming months. This tale will put Billy through trials he’s never experienced before, pushing his friendships and beliefs to their breaking points.

We’re deeply saddened to say goodbye to Dan, who has been exceptional in some of Corrie’s major storylines during the past few years, particularly Paul’s MND. A gifted actor with unmatched talent and ability, he was also a cherished figure behind the scenes – we’ll all miss him on the cobbles.

2025 has witnessed significant changes on the cobblestones, with notable departures such as David Platt’s son Max Turner (played by Paddy Bever), barmaid Daisy Midgeley (performed by Charlotte Jordan), and the emotional farewell of Julie Carp (portrayed by Katy Cavanagh).
