Natalie Portman STOLE What From Star Wars?! You Won’t Believe It!

In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, actress Natalie Portman admitted, after twenty-three years, that she had secretly taken one of Hayden Christensen’s Padawan braids from the Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones set. She explained that since there were many braids used due to frequent changes, she took one as a souvenir.

When Colbert inquired if anyone on the set of Attack of the Clones knew whether Portman had taken one of Anakin’s braids, she chose to remain silent using her Fifth Amendment right. She further hinted that this might be how director George Lucas discovers such thefts. Unfortunately for him, if Lucas wants the braid back, he is out of luck as Portman admitted, “I misplaced it, so I can’t return it.

It’s quite perplexing to decide which part is more puzzling: whether Portman unintentionally lost an important Star Wars artifact, or she took one of Anakin’s braids given that she portrayed the most fashionable character in the galaxy. As Padmé Amidala, Portman was a key figure in all three Star Wars Prequel films and donned some of the most elaborate, distinctive costumes ever seen in that distant galaxy. One might expect that if Portman were to take anything from the set, it would be a piece of her iconic clothing or perhaps even a lightsaber or the blaster Amidala used in the Battle of Geonosis.

Considering her character’s secret relationship with Anakin and the stolen braid incident, it seems surprisingly romantic, as if she was trying to keep a small memento hidden off-set. Regardless of the reason, it appears that the braid is lost to Lucasfilm now, and we can only hope that George Lucas will understand Natalie Portman’s actions. Certainly not how one would expect Queen Amidala to behave.

It’s possible that Portman might rejoin Lucasfilm’s props department if she decides to reprise her role as Padmé in one of the upcoming Star Wars projects, similar to Hayden Christensen’s return. Even though Padmé is deceased, characters like Anakin have appeared in flashbacks (such as Obi-Wan Kenobi) and scenes from World Between Worlds (like Ahsoka). So, it’s conceivable that Portman’s Padmé could make a similar appearance, given her enthusiasm for the role.

Star Wars content can be streamed on Disney+.
