Although it was quite ’80s and not entirely true to the original source material, the beloved Stephen King novel of the same name published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1982 has yet to be adapted for the screen. However, in this dystopian year that King’s story was originally set, it’s been confirmed that Baby Driver director Edgar Wright will bring his unique vision to life, tailoring it for today’s moviegoers!

In the new adaptation of “The Running Man”, Glen Powell plays Ben Richards, a character from King’s novel who finds himself in dire straits. The movie plot follows a person participating in a television game show where contestants are chased by hired killers around the globe. The original characters and storyline suggest that this remake will stay true to the book. Furthermore, actress Katy M. O’Brian has hinted on The Julia Cunningham Show that fans can look forward to their expectations being met.

“This project is more in line with the book than the Arnold film. I’m thrilled because it presents a side of me or a character that I rarely get to portray, allowing me lots of enjoyment in this dystopian setting. The story takes place in a dystopian 2025, making now an ideal time for its release. Reading the script was the first instance where I thought, ‘This is who’s directing this.’ It screams Edgar from its style and editing choices. I immediately agreed, saying, ‘Yes, Edgar,’ and sensed the music introductions.

Hollywood has been plagued with remakes, either falling short of expectations or playing it too safe, aiming to replicate the original with a contemporary aesthetic. However, Edgar Wright’s take on The Running Man appears to bridge the gaps left by the initial King adaptation. Not only was it confirmed that the book would be adapted for the screen, but the actress also boosted fans’ faith in the remake, stating that the script was tailor-made for Wright to direct.
