Following its debut on modern gaming consoles this month, developer GSC Game World has rolled out a fresh update for the Enhanced Edition of the STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy. Last year, in anticipation of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, GSC Game World unveiled the trilogy, granting console players their first chance to explore the original titles – STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat – which had previously been exclusive to PC.
For many first-person shooter (FPS) gamers, the Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy was thrilling. However, it turned out to be a letdown for some when they found out that the console versions of the trilogy were actually Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games, which could be played on Series X and S, and PS5 due to backward compatibility. Fortunately, GSC Game World recently offered a free “Enhanced Edition” upgrade for the trilogy, specifically designed for Xbox Series consoles and PS5, offering 4K resolution and up to 120 frames per second. Unfortunately, players of this Enhanced Edition have been encountering numerous bugs, such as game-breaking crashes and save problems.
GSC Game World has addressed the technical issues plaguing the upgraded STALKER trilogy with Update 1.01. In response to a common PC problem, the developer now sends a message rather than causing the game to crash for those running it on less powerful hardware. This way, players who might not be aware of the trilogy’s system requirements will receive an explanation as to why the game isn’t functioning properly, preventing confusion and ensuring a smoother experience overall.
In Update 1.01, special attention has been given to improving the performance of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and S versions of the enhanced edition of the Legends of the Zone Trilogy. Developers GSC have addressed numerous issues, such as smoothing out frequent crashes in the trilogy and fixing save problems reported by players. Additionally, they’ve made improvements within the levels of the STALKER trilogy, restoring missing environmental elements for a more complete experience.
As a die-hard STALKER fan, I’ve noticed that this recent patch seems to have tackled some crucial stability problems from the trilogy, but there are still quite a few issues lingering across all three games. Some players complain about the controller aim assist and hit registration not feeling right, and it’s disheartening for many of us that GSC has taken out Soviet iconography from the original trilogy’s settings. Luckily, GSC Game World hinted at the end of their patch notes post on Steam that they’ll carry on refining the enhanced trilogy, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and stay tuned for the next update.
