In simpler terms, Joe Layton shared that he had anticipated all along that his Coronation Street character, Mick Michaelis, would ultimately end up killing the well-loved character of Craig Tinker, played by Colson Smith.
This week, Craig met an unfortunate end following a violent encounter with an enraged Mick, casting a gloom over the cobblestones as those close to him struggled to come to terms with the tragic news.
In a heartbreaking moment, Kirk Sutherland (portrayed by Andy Whyment) found himself shattered after the tragic loss of his cherished stepson. Holding onto Craig’s tie tightly, he mustered up the courage to dial Beth’s number, who at that moment was unaware of her son’s fate (played by Lisa George).
In the case of Mick, it was Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), an old foe, who apprehended him following a confrontation. The incident occurred when Mick seized Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) as retaliation against Green.
Reflecting on the situation later, I found myself squirming under the scrutiny of Detective Sergeant Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers. In my haste to clear my name, I unwittingly made a grave error when I attempted to use my son Brody, portrayed by Ryan Mulvey, as an alibi – only to discover that he had been detained in a police cell the entire day!
A shaken Lisa kept her composure for just long enough to charge Mick with Craig’s murder.

In the moment I received the job proposal, I was certain it would entail taking someone’s life. Later, during my conversation with Kate Brooks from Coronation Street, she revealed, “It will be Craig.
On my first day, I entered a green room where I encountered Colson. He exclaimed, “I believe you’re going to end up killing me!” To which I replied, “I might just do that! However, when I accepted the role, I was aware of what would transpire, thanks to Kate.
When queried about Mick’s thoughts upon learning that Craig passed away, the actor expressed: “I believe several things crossed his mind. One was, he doesn’t trust Kit and they seem to be in a rather incriminating situation with Bernie, involving high-stakes. So, [he might be questioning] if Kit is telling the truth?
Nevertheless, this is accompanied by the fact that we witnessed the events unfold, and it was impossible for anyone to remain unaffected. Moreover, he has surpassed the point where turning back is an option, causing him immense fear, shock, and a whirlwind of emotions.
With fans deeply saddened by the tragic and premature end of Craig’s life, will Layton be ready to face the public response to Mick’s newest heinous act?

He didn’t seem too popular at first, and it’s partly due to his interactions on the show and the way he writes himself,” he admitted, hinting at some uncertainty about how things might unfold.
It can seem akin to playing Russian roulette, as it’s anyone’s turn to bear the brunt of it. Therefore, I suspect that their anger isn’t just about Craig; rather, there may be a growing accumulation of other issues at play.
Layton highly commended Smith, stating that he was among Layton’s strongest backers while they were working on the show together.
I’d like to give credit to Colson, as he stands out among the friendly folks at Corrie for his exceptional kindness and warm welcome towards me.
Trying to imagine what he might be experiencing, given his prolonged time on the soap opera, I can understand that numerous aspects must play a significant role in his life, as it has become such an integral part of him.
As guilty Mick continues to protest his innocence, will Craig get justice?
