As a devoted cinephile, I must issue a significant spoiler alert for those yet to watch the 2025 masterpiece, “Companion”. If you’ve missed out on this movie thus far, I strongly urge you to rectify that situation without any further delay. Trust me; it will be an experience you won’t want to miss!
As a film enthusiast, I couldn’t resist the allure of TopMob’s Companion review (rated four out of five stars). The idea of experiencing this bloody, laugh-out-loud, and bone-chillingly terrifying sci-fi thriller about a disastrous weekend getaway on the big screen had me hooked. Alas, numerous attempts to catch it in theaters were unsuccessful. So, I patiently waited for its release as a new streaming title. The day arrived when Companion was available with my Max subscription, and I finally seized the opportunity to immerse myself in this cinematic adventure.
This movie was just as entertaining as everyone claimed, and even more so. For the past week or so, it’s been constantly on my mind, particularly regarding one aspect of Drew Hancock’s violent, robot-filled thriller “Empathix”: the company responsible for turning Sophie Thatcher’s character into an instant icon. Let me elaborate…
By paying in advance for a year, you can enjoy significant savings on your Max subscription: up to a 16% discount is available across three different plans. If you prefer, their cheapest plan starts at just $9.99 per month. However, I’d suggest considering the bundle with Disney+ and Hulu instead, as it offers a great value starting from only $16.99 monthly. Check out this deal!

I Heard Companion Was A Vicious Romp With Downright Awful And Unforgettable Characters
For several months following the theatrical premiere and streaming launch of “Companion” in 2025, people have referred to it as a film featuring amiable robots along with some of the most reprehensible romantic characters seen recently. Unsurprisingly, both characterizations are accurate for this horror-thriller.
Starting with Jack Quaid’s character Josh, moving on to Harvey Guillen’s Eli (often seen as the most despicable), then Megan Suri’s Kat, there is an abundance of truly detestable characters who show little regard for Luke Cage’s Patrick and the lead character Sophie Thatcher’s Iris. With numerous captivating scenes, gruesome deaths, and moments that strike a chord, there’s plenty to appreciate in this series.

But Since Watching, I Can’t Stop Thinking About Empathix And The Company’s Moral Dilemmas
Despite the chaos unfolding in the finale of the Companion, what truly captivates my mind is the enigma surrounding Empathix and the ethical quandaries they must grapple with on a regular basis. Iris’ realization that she is essentially a sex robot, with memories implanted from a pre-set menu when delivered to Josh (who discovers he can’t even afford her ownership, as she’s just a rental), raises a myriad of questions about identity, consciousness, and the complex bond between humans and artificial intelligence.
As I watched the film, my enthusiasm spiked each time a character from Empathix appeared, offering insights into Iris and other robotic companions. The combination of these intriguing moments, as well as the intense action sequences, have left a lasting impression on me.

I Don’t Know If We Need A Companion Sequel, But I’d Love To Know More About Empathix
Despite Drew Hancock’s self-proclaimed “poor” concept for a sequel, it’s uncertain if we’ll witness another Iris adventure given that she survived the torturous weekend and is now navigating life independently. Yet, should there be a subsequent installment, my preference would lie in exploring Empathix further to offer insights into the intricate mechanisms of the enigmatic robotics corporation.
In what manner did they begin their journey? What’s the purpose behind using so much captured content? Are there any chilling tales they’ve encountered along the way? Delving into these mysteries sounds intriguing, and I find it crucial to uncover them.
Despite my regret for not watching Companion sooner, I wholeheartedly believe that the delay was absolutely justified in the end.
