However, Domhnall Gleeson Had A Fun Pitch For A Potential Fountain Of Youth Sequel
In addition to observing Domhnall Gleeson’s pitch when I asked him and Eiza González this question, it seems that character Owen Carver, played by Gleeson, might not appear in the sequel given the scene at the fountain. Nevertheless, the actor did propose an idea for Luke and Charlotte’s next quest, as he shared:
Instead of visiting Tír na nÓg, the eternal land of youth in Ireland, they might consider going there. While Ireland may not have the best weather compared to certain other places, this option could still be appealing.
In Irish folklore, Tír na nÓg is a land often referred to as the “Land of Eternal Youth.” As portrayed by the actor in “About Time,” this place symbolizes a realm brimming with youth, beauty, vitality, prosperity, and happiness. Essentially, it’s like the Fountain of Youth on steroids, offering eternal youth rather than just a single magical spring. With its focus on a fresh myth, cultural exploration, and hidden riches, Tír na nÓg could make an engaging sequel by building upon the foundation of the original film while delving into new themes.
As a dedicated cinephile, I had my reservations initially when I heard we’d be shooting a movie in Ireland due to its notoriously rainy weather. However, Brendan Gleeson made a compelling argument that convinced me, emphasizing the unique atmosphere and possibilities that such conditions could offer for our film.
