Couples afraid of being third-wheeled rejoice, FromSoftware might add in a duos option to Elden Ring Nightreign

It seems that what’s preventing me from getting Elden Ring Nightreign on release is the absence of a duo mode. Generally, I prefer single-player games and when I play online, it’s usually with my partner. The thought of some unknown player like “xX_fartmaster_Xx” joining us doesn’t appeal to me. However, I believe there are others who share this sentiment. Fortunately, FromSoftware appears to be contemplating a two-player option for the upcoming Soulslike game.

In a conversation with IGN, game director Junya Ishizaki shared insights gained from working under Elden Ring’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki. Among the many interesting points discussed, Ishizaki clarified why there is no two-player option in the game. Essentially, he admitted that it was an oversight during development and expressed regret for not including this feature, stating that it was something they had simply overlooked.

Previously mentioned, our intention has always been to create a cooperative multiplayer game for three individuals, ensuring a well-balanced experience tailored for this specific number of players. This concept lies at the heart of Nightreign. However, as a player myself, I recognize the desire for solo play sessions, and we took that into account from the beginning.

Ishizaki explained that the team dedicated significant resources to creating an enjoyable and playable solo experience, but in their eagerness, they may have unintentionally overlooked and underdeveloped the duos mode. However, he clarified that a duos mode is something they are contemplating for post-launch updates as well.

For the moment, it suits my needs perfectly! Fingers crossed the upgrade arrives sooner rather than later, before the rumored Elden Ring film becomes a reality – though for now, let’s pretend it isn’t on the horizon.
