Netflix Subscribers Have Less Than One Week to Stream One of the Best Movies of All Time

Netflix users have just a few days left (until June 1) to watch one of the all-time great movies, as it’s being taken off the platform soon. It may come back eventually, but we don’t know exactly when that will be yet.

If you haven’t watched Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas yet or want to revisit this classic 1990 gangster movie, do it by June 1st as it will be removed from Netflix along with several other films and shows on that date.

On June 1st, when Goodfellas departs from Netflix, viewers who wish to watch the film can either opt to rent it or sign up for HBO Max, as for now, it appears to be an exclusive streaming choice on that platform.

If you’re one of the few who haven’t yet experienced the ’90s masterpiece, Goodfellas, let me fill you in. This captivating gangster film is based on the non-fiction book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi, published in 1985. The movie brings to life the tale of Henry Hill, a Mafia associate, portrayed by acting greats like Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta, and others. The story takes us on a journey through Henry’s life, from his beginnings in 1955 to his ultimate downfall in 1980, showcasing the highs and lows of organized crime life.

The film had its debut on September 9, 1990, during the 47th Venice International Film Festival. It then opened in U.S. cinemas on September 19, 1990, and went on to earn a box office revenue of $47.1 million against a production budget of $25 million.

In terms of recognition, the movie was nominated for six Academy Awards, one of which was Best Picture. Additionally, it boasts Rotten Tomatoes scores of 94/97, and has been added to the National Film Registry by the U.S. government for preservation purposes. If you plan on streaming it on Netflix in the near future (before June 1), be aware that it’s a lengthy gangster film running approximately 2 hours and 26 minutes long.

It’s worth mentioning that Goodfellas has previously been added and then taken off Netflix. Currently, there’s no news about its return. Previously, when it was removed, it stayed absent for quite some time, so it seems reasonable to anticipate a similar wait this time around as well.
