Arcade Archives 2 Receives a Big Price Hike with Ridge Racer on PS5

The prices for Hamster’s different Arcade Archives games can fluctuate due to each specific license agreement, but typically they are sold for approximately $7.99 on the PlayStation Store.

As a gamer myself, I’ve got to admit, it’s been refreshing recently to find games like NebulasRay from Bandai Namco that only set me back $14.99. However, it seems like Ridge Racer might follow the trend of increasing game prices.

In simple terms, the initial game in the developer’s second series of Arcade Archives, a classic arcade game, will retail for $16.99 on the PlayStation 5. On the other hand, the standard Arcade Archives version can be bought for $14.99 on the PlayStation 4. If you own the PS4 edition and decide to upgrade to the PS5 edition later, it’ll only cost you an additional $2.99.

On the PlayStation 5, the Arcade Archives 2 offers enhanced features over its version on the PlayStation 4, such as:

1. Time Attack Mode for competitive gameplay.
2. Rewind functionality to help players correct mistakes.
3. Multiple save states to easily revert progress at any point.
4. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology for smoother visuals.

However, given that Ridge Racer Type-4 emulation on PS1 is priced at $9.99 on the PlayStation Store, this price might appear quite steep to some. While we acknowledge that Hamster needs to cover Bandai Namco’s licensing costs, and appreciate their efforts in preserving these classic titles, a cost of $16.99 for a relatively basic arcade port seems somewhat high.

Indeed, it’s one of the best arcade racers ever made, as far as we can tell. We might just end up purchasing it regardless.
