Pierce Brosnan Claps Back at Criticism Over His Mobland Accent!

Star Pierce Brosnan has shared insights on the response to his Irish accent in the popular TV show, and he elaborated on the method he used to develop its unique tone.

During an interview with Radio Times, Brosnan discussed the criticism he faced regarding his accent as Conrad Harrigan in the latest Paramount+ series. He explained, “My own accent is quite gentle. Conrad’s accent is completely different from mine.” Later, he shared some guidance from his dialect coach about perfecting the Kerry accent. “He suggested a specific person to me. I looked him up online, and that was it – I had a Kerry accent. So, I fully embraced it,” Brosnan said.

In the series MobLand, written by Ronan Bennett, Tom Hardy portrays Harry Da Souza, a troubleshooter for the Harrigan crime clan. The Harrigans recruit him with the expectation that he can manage and possibly resolve an impending gang feud. Additionally, the star-studded cast includes Helen Mirren as Maeve, the family’s matriarch within the Harrigan clan.

Paddy Considine plays Kevin, the second son of the Harrigan family, while Daniel Betts takes on the role of the eldest son Brendan. Joanne Froggat portrays Jan, Harry’s wife, and Jasmine Jobson is cast as Zosia, a close associate and friend of Harry. Upon its debut, MobLand received a mix of positive reviews from critics, many of which were favorable, and it became one of the most-watched shows on Paramount+ in April, alongside Tyler Sheridan’s 1923 and Landman.

Helen Mirren Was Surprised By Some Aspects of Her Character

Mirren had earlier talked about her surprise when she discovered the complex nature of her character Maeve, discussing ambition and ruthlessness. “I didn’t anticipate it would be this intense when I agreed to join“, she admitted. “In truth, I had little understanding at all about who Maeve was or what role she would play. We might have watched the first episode together with Pierce, but both of us signed up around the same time. We didn’t fully grasp what we were stepping into, and it unveiled itself as we progressed, and I must say, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on it.

Following the debut of “MobLand”, its primary actor – who directed the initial two episodes and had previously collaborated with Hardy on the 2008 film “RocknRolla” – expressed surprise, noting that it had been 17 years since their last collaboration.

Hardy mentioned, “It seemed like not too long ago when I called him on the phone. Despite the passage of time, he had already become an integral part of the project. We quickly caught up, and before I knew it, we were moving forward.

Mobland is currently streaming on Paramount+, with the Season 1 finale set for June 1.
