The popular American comedy “Hacks” has concluded another critically-acclaimed season, yet there’s more to come!
In this series, Jean Smart portrays Deborah Vance, a seasoned stand-up comedian, and Hannah Einbinder plays Ava Daniels, her persistent writer. Their roles often fluctuate between friendship and fierce rivals in a passionate, challenging work relationship.
In the latest installment, Deborah achieved her long-cherished ambition of hosting a late-night TV talk show, yet this milestone brought along fresh challenges, troubles, and introspective moments she needed to navigate.
Due to the long-lasting appeal and positive reception of the series, with a notable collection of Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Awards under its belt, it’s hardly unexpected that Hacks will continue for another season, specifically season 5.
Despite some ambiguity, it’s undecided if upcoming seasons will mark the end of the show, or if it might continue beyond what was originally intended by its makers. In the meantime, here’s a rundown of all we currently know regarding Hacks season 5.
Hacks season 5 release date speculation

Excitedly, I share that the beloved series “Hacks” has been given a green light for its fifth season on HBO Max! However, this installment might mark the conclusion of Deborah Vance’s journey – but let’s hope it’s not the end of her story.
According to co-creator Paul W Downs (TV Insider), we’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to create another season of our comedy series. It seems almost unfair, but we feel incredibly fortunate because such longevity is quite uncommon. Our gratitude knows no bounds.
It appears that Season 5 of Hacks might be airing in May 2026. This is based on the fact that the series has typically followed an annual release schedule, with only a minor delay in 2023 due to some unforeseen circumstances.
From the onset, it’s been clear that the talented team behind this series – led by Downs, Jen Statsky, and Lucia Aniello – have always had a well-structured blueprint of five seasons ahead. I, for one, am excited to see where their vision takes us!
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Downs shared that they proposed the final scene of the final episode right from the beginning when they were presenting the show. They’ve consistently had a clear idea about the main events or key moments of each season.
He continued, expressing a preference for five seasons, whereas Starkey shared that their lead actress, Jean Smart, wants to avoid extending the series beyond its peak and potentially watering it down.
Yet, during a conversation with Collider, she hinted that season 5 might not be the conclusive ending we may anticipate.
According to Statsky, maintaining the freshness of the relationship and discovering new locations for Deborah and Ava is key to the show’s success. If there’s a method we could implement that feels appropriate, then perhaps it might be considered. However, at this point, that remains our primary focus.
The popular show “Hacks” has garnered much success on the streaming service, earning nine Emmy Awards and 48 nominations in just four seasons, making it predictable that it would be renewed for another season.
Hacks season 5 cast: Who could return?

It’s highly likely that Season 5 of Hacks will bring back Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, who have garnered immense praise and a global fanbase with their exceptional performances.
In the series Hacks, there are several familiar characters besides the main ones. These include Carl Clemons-Hopkins portraying Marcus, Megan Stalter as Kayla, and co-creator Paul W Downs playing Jimmy. It’s likely that we’ll see these characters again in future episodes.
