Following last year’s declaration that Project Orion, the successor to Cyberpunk 2077, started its initial development stage, CD Projekt RED has verified that it is currently progressing through the preliminary production phase.
In an intriguing turn of events, CD Projekt Group’s Q1 2025 earnings report mentioned the sequel as Cyberpunk 2, leaving us to wonder if it’s a more straightforward title for investors or the official name moving forward. Creator Mike Pondsmith has hinted at a new city resembling “Chicago in disarray,” which might suggest it could be called Cyberpunk 2080. The exact details remain unclear for now.
The important point here is that in the established storyline, Night Corp developed a magnetic levitation (maglev) transport system connecting Night City and Chicago. While it’s yet unclear if players will get to visit Chicago, it has been confirmed that Night City itself will reappear in the upcoming sequel.
Keep an eye out for further information and announcements in the interim, as developers at CD Projekt RED are hard at work to deliver the “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition” on Nintendo Switch 2 by June 5th. This special edition incorporates the original game along with “Phantom Liberty”, a spin-off that has already sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
