Electronic Arts cancels Black Panther game, closes Cliffhanger Games

According to a report by IGN, Electronic Arts has decided to scrap their third-person action game set in the Marvel’s Black Panther universe and is planning to close down the studio responsible for its development, Cliffhanger Games.

In a message to the team, Electronic Arts Entertainment president Laura Miele acknowledged that the decisions being made are challenging. She emphasized that these choices impact individuals who they’ve collaborated with, learned from, and built memories with. To assist them during this time, she stated that they are making every effort to offer support, including exploring possibilities within Electronic Arts where they’ve helped others transition into new roles in the past.

Electronic Arts (EA) is letting go of employees from both their mobile and main departments, yet they have chosen not to disclose the exact number of people impacted by these layoffs.

As a dedicated gamer here, I’m excited to share that Electronic Arts is refining its focus, channeling our creative energy towards the games with the biggest potential for growth. So, moving forward, we’re going to put more emphasis on a select few franchises like Apex Legends, Battlefield, The Sims, and even skate. Rest assured, there’s no slowdown in production! We’re still working hard on our Iron Man game at Motive Studios, continuing the Star Wars: Jedi series at Respawn Entertainment, and not forgetting about the next Mass Effect game at BioWare. It’s going to be an exciting journey ahead!
