Ichi the Witch and Iruma-kun Unite in Adorable Crossover Event!

In the void left by the conclusion of “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “My Hero Academia,” which ended their serialization a year ago, one series that has stepped up admirably to fill the limelight is the enchanting “Ichi the Witch” by Osamu Nishi. This captivating magical series has emerged as Shonen Jump’s newest sensation, displaying such potential that it almost sparked a rivalry between two major manga publishers. It’s worth noting that Nishi’s body of work extends beyond “Ichi the Witch,” and recently, a crossover event brought together two of his finest pieces in an incredibly heartwarming manner.

A recent post on X by “Ichi the Witch”‘s official account has disclosed that “Ichi the Witch” and Osamu Nishi’s other series, “Welcome to Demon School! Ichi the Witch and Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun Release Crossover Art

In these two special drawings, Nishi is responsible for depicting Iruma, while Shiro Usazaki, known for his work on “Ichi the Witch,” draws Ichi. They are portrayed as witches in one illustration and demons in another. In one scene, Iruma sports a witch’s hat like Ichi, while in another, they both have cute horns. Additionally, these drawings include chibi (cute, childlike) versions of Kalego, Iruma’s companion, and Uroro, the source of Ichi’s powers, emphasizing the connections between the two stories.

Since the release of Nishi’s work on “Ichi the Witch”, her earlier series, “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun” has gained significant attention in Shonen Champion magazine since its debut in 2017. It has become one of Shonen Champion’s key series, selling over 17 million copies as of November 2024, and currently, a fourth season of the anime produced by Bandai Namco Pictures is underway. Although “Baki” has undeniably sold more copies, in recent years, “Iruma-kun” can be considered as the symbol of Weekly Shonen Champion much like Luffy represents Shonen Jump.

It’s clear that the anime series, “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun,” has built a substantial following, despite being relatively unknown outside of Japan because it’s a Shonen Jump title. It’s pleasing to see that two of author Nishi’s works are crossing over, increasing their visibility. If you’re a fan of the whimsical storytelling in “Ichi the Witch” and adore Ichi as much as the protagonist of Iruma-kun, now is the perfect moment to dive into “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun.” Similarly, fans of “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun” should catch up on “Ichi the Witch” before it becomes a global phenomenon.
