After a span of five years, it appears that Final Fantasy 7 Remake might soon make its way to Xbox. It’s worth noting that the Final Fantasy series isn’t traditionally associated with Xbox. While Final Fantasy has been available on Xbox in the past, it holds a strong connection with the PlayStation brand. The history of PlayStation and Final Fantasy goes back further than Xbox, so for many players, their first experience with Final Fantasy 7 was on the original PlayStation console. Sony has always had a close relationship with Square Enix, which made it disappointing for role-playing game enthusiasts on Xbox when some of the most significant Final Fantasy games were exclusively available on PlayStation consoles.
For years, whispers about Final Fantasy 7 Remake arriving on Xbox have persisted, yet as time goes by, more and more fans find their optimism waning. However, with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5 in 2024, there remains no inkling of a port for its predecessor on Xbox. To add to the disappointment, Final Fantasy 16 has also been confined to PS5 and PC. This has made it a challenging situation for Xbox enthusiasts eager to delve into some of the most critically acclaimed games ever created. Nevertheless, there’s a strong possibility that this could change imminently.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake May Be Announced for Xbox Next Week
As reported by Jez Corden from Windows Central, there’s a strong possibility that the announcements for “Final Fantasy 7 Remake”, “Rebirth”, and “Final Fantasy 16” are planned for Xbox’s summer gaming event. If this turns out to be true, it could create a significant impact, especially if these games become available on Xbox Game Pass to make up for the wait periods. However, this is merely speculation at this point. For some time now, whispers have suggested that “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” may release on Xbox this year, while “Rebirth” could come out next year, but Corden did not provide specifics regarding their release timings.
According to Corden, long-waiting fans of Final Fantasy on Xbox will find satisfaction at the Xbox Showcase, as games such as the remakes of Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 16 are announced for the platform. It might be exciting if Square-Enix decides to unveil future projects like Dragon Quest 12 too. Here’s hoping for more good news!
It would be fantastic if Xbox gamers could surprise-receive one of these games during the event, as it would provide them with an immediate play option and potentially boost sales. Since it’s speculated that Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 might not be exclusive to PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 6 but rather released on multiple consoles, there’s a chance it may appear on Xbox too. If that happens, Square Enix would need to ensure that the initial two chapters of the series are available on Xbox beforehand so that existing Xbox fans can get up to speed in time.
