Savannah Chrisley Reunites With Todd Chrisley After Prison Release

Todd Chrisley is back with his family.

On May 28th, the former star of “Chrisley Knows Best” met up with his daughter Savannah Chrisley once more, following his release from a federal penitentiary in Pensacola, Florida. He had been imprisoned for tax evasion and bank fraud offenses, but was later granted clemency by President Donald Trump prior to this encounter.

Savannah posted a snippet from their journey home in Instagram Stories; it included Todd humorously discussing muscle-building as part of his conversation.

“Feel my muscles,” Todd tells Savannah, to which the 27-year-old confirms that he’s “jacked.”

Even though the pardon granted an early release for Julie Chrisley as well, she was imprisoned in a facility in Lexington, Kentucky, far from where Todd was, and therefore missed the first emotional reunion with her daughter Savannah when Todd was released.

After the pardon, the couple still had a considerable amount of time left to serve on their individual prison terms: Todd was scheduled for release in April 2032, while Julie’s term would end in January 2028.

Following Trump’s announcement that he would grant a pardon to the couple, who were convicted in 2022 but continued to assert their innocence regarding the case, Savannah expressed her heartfelt response to this positive development.

In a recent Instagram post on May 27th, I expressed my disbelief as I shared the news that my parents are returning home either tonight or tomorrow. To be honest, it still feels surreal to me, and I can’t help but feel excited yet overwhelmed – a whirlwind of emotions!

Savannah also thanked her family’s supporters for “sticking with” them amid their legal saga.

She went on expressing her gratitude, “I simply can’t express how much I appreciate your help. Soon, my parents will have a chance at a fresh start.

Simultaneously, Savannah’s sibling, Kyle Chrisley (who shares a relationship with ex-wife Teresa Terry), also rejoiced at the pardon. However, it’s worth noting that he has been maintaining an estranged relationship with his family.

In August 2019, Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were accused by a federal grand jury in Atlanta on charges such as wire fraud, conspiring to commit bank fraud, and conspiring to defraud the U.S., as reported by NBC News. The prosecutors alleged that the fraudulent activities started around the mid-2000s. Among other things, they accused them of avoiding paying almost $2 million in state taxes between 2008 and 2016, and hiding more than a million dollars from the IRS.

A day prior to the indictment being handed down, Todd asserted that he and his spouse were not guilty, and instead alleged that a loyal employee had been embezzling funds and extorting them.

In his Instagram post, he stated, “There’s no secret or anything to be embarrassed about our actions. We are confident beyond doubt that we haven’t done anything wrong. To reinforce this, we have substantial proof and numerous credible witnesses backing us up.

Three years passed before the stars of “Chrisley Knows Best” stood trial. Over the course of three weeks, numerous testimonies were given. Initially claiming innocence, they were found guilty of all charges related to tax evasion and bank fraud on June 7, 2022.

As a devoted follower, I found myself implicated in a case where the U.S. attorney’s office claimed my associates and our accountant, Peter Tarantino, had conspired with me to orchestrate a fraud scheme. This alleged scheme aimed at deceiving banks out of over $30 million across a ten-year span during which we were in partnership.

Keri Farley, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, stated in June 2022, “The results today demonstrate that no matter how famous, wealthy, or powerful you are, dishonesty, deceit, and theft will never evade justice. In the end, the verdict of guilty on all counts for these three defendants serves as a reminder that committing financial crimes will always lead to consequences.

15 months after the event, the Northern District of Georgia pronounced a sentence of 12 years in prison for Todd and a sentence of 7 years for Julie (who received a sentence of 3 years in prison, as in the case of Peter).

For approximately ten years, the accused individuals swindled banks out of vast sums of money, totaling tens of millions, all while avoiding paying their federal income taxes. As stated by U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan in a November 2022 declaration, the lengthy sentences they received underscore the extent of their criminal activity and should act as a deterrent to anyone considering misusing our nation’s community banking system for illegal personal enrichment.

In September 2023, both Julie’s and Todd’s sentences were reduced: Julie is now set to be discharged a year and a half earlier than initially planned, while Todd’s release date has been moved forward by two years from its original 2035 date.

Jay Surgent, the duo’s lawyer, shared with Insider in September 2023 that without a shadow of a doubt, Todd and Julie are exemplary inmates who were given unusually long sentences. He mentioned that currently, Todd has been reduced to serving a 10-year term, while Julie is now serving a five-year sentence.

In January 2023, the pair both began serving their individual prison terms. Todd was incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution (FPI) in Pensacola, Florida, while Julie served her sentence at a separate federal facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

Six months following Julie and Todd’s incarceration in separate facilities, their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, offered some perspectives on their wellbeing. She disclosed that her parents had no communication with each other while they served their sentences.

195 days passed without any communication between us, as she expressed in her August 2023 Instagram post. My heart aches…I implore for fairness and justice!

She also pushed back at rumors about their time in prison.

She found it amusing because one of them commented, “He’s let himself go,” according to her on the Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley podcast. Initially, she pointed out that hair dye isn’t available in prison stores, so naturally, his hair is gray. However, if he were here now, she would tell him to keep it that way because it suits him well and he seems to have a talented prison barber.

Yet, Todd expressed his concerns regarding the mistreatment he experienced at the federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, despite being incarcerated.

In a phone conversation during the December 2023 edition of Cuomo, he stated that the food was not fresh. Specifically, it had surpassed its expiration date by a full year.

He went on to say, “There are rats and squirrels in the storage area where the food is kept. They concealed it with plastic sheets, but then they ripped open the ceiling due to black mold growth. As a result, they discovered a deceased cat up there, which unfortunately fell onto the food.

Besides the dreadful events in the cafeteria, he claimed that someone additionally tried to blackmail his loved ones.

He mentioned that there was a picture taken of him sleeping and it was sent to his daughter. He then requested $2,600 per month for her protection.

In the absence of their parents, Savannah takes care of her younger brothers Grayson and Chloe. She’s shared how the legal proceedings against her parents and the resulting distance between them have been a heavy burden for her.

She revealed to TopMob News in March 2024 that her last conversation with them was on the day they were taken to federal prison. She claimed that there is a significant amount of retribution being directed towards her father due to our vocal criticisms of the prison conditions.

In reality, she claimed that the prison authorities were obstructing a significant amount of his email communication with her mother.

Although trying to keep the focus on others, she acknowledged that the situation could be overpowering at moments.

Savannah shared on her podcast ‘Unlocked’ in April 2024, “What I find challenging is the sensation Mom and Dad have that life keeps going without them, and I relate to this sentiment with some people in my own life as it seems they carry on with their lives regardless.

She went on, “I’m still here, panting for air, juggling various aspects of life. It’s not just about managing finances for the children or being a good parent; I’m also navigating my own relationship.

In June 2024, Julie’s seven-year prison sentence was reversed by a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. While they upheld her convictions, the court determined that the sentencing judge in her 2022 trial made an error in calculating Julie’s sentence as a reality star.

In their decision, the judges explained that the lower court did not clearly specify the evidence it used to convict Julie for pre-2007 losses. As we cannot locate this evidence ourselves in the court records, they have decided to overturn Julie’s sentence and send the case back to the district court. The district court is now required to make the necessary findings on loss, restitution, and forfeiture regarding Julie, and then re-sentence her accordingly.

In this scenario, the judge transferred her case to a lower court for them to decide on any necessary changes to her sentence. Meanwhile, Todd’s sentence remains unchanged.

Three months following the reversal of her prison sentence, the court in Atlanta eventually confirmed the original seven-year incarceration term for Julie. In a moving display of remorse, she offered an emotional apology – not just to the court, but also to her children.

Julie expressed remorse before the court, stating that she’s had ample time to reflect on her words since many months have passed. She acknowledged her regret for the actions and circumstances that have brought us to this point, as reported by People during the September 25 hearing. Furthermore, she admitted that while she’s spent 20 months in prison, the true period of reflection goes back much further, leading up to the trial, and again apologized for her actions which led to our current situation.

She’s made every possible effort to reconnect with her family. She’s even taken exams to learn new abilities like driving a forklift and serving food properly. This phase of her life has been incredibly challenging. She can never fully repay her children for the hardships they’ve endured, and for that, she expresses deep regret.

The Chrisleys are returning home after receiving a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, as confirmed by him during a phone conversation with Savannah on May 27, 2025.

Savannah expressed her gratitude to TopMob News by saying that for the past two and a half years she has been tirelessly working to secure the release of her parents. She stated that this moment, which is the result of countless prayers, fills her with immense gratitude as President Trump recognized the truth and brought our family back together again.
