Is Ms. Marvel Season 2 Doomed? Shocking Update from Aramis Knight!

It seems uncertain if there will be a second season for Ms. Marvel, given that one of the show’s actors has stated he hasn’t received any contact regarding future appearances, even in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. The first season of Ms. Marvel was released in June 2022 and garnered excellent reviews (98% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it was also one of the least-watched MCU shows. This underperformance could be attributed to its focus on a new character without ties to the films, as well as its simultaneous release with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+. Despite being ideally suited for television due to her role as a teenage superhero, Disney+ has been silent about any updates regarding the series for almost three years now.

During an interview with Screen Rant prior to his appearance in “Karate Kid: Legends”, Aramis Knight was asked about the possible developments in the second season of “Ms. Marvel”. Knight portrayed Kareem, the leader of the Red Daggers, a group that Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel had allied with. In the last episode, Kareem offered sanctuary to Kamala’s friend, Kamran. Knight revealed that it appears Season 2 is not in the works and shared some hints about potential abandoned storylines for his character within Marvel Studios. Knight stated:

As far as Ms. Marvel Season 2 is concerned, I can’t say for certain because it’s been a while since we discussed it. To be honest, I would be thrilled to be involved, but there were issues with scheduling and logistics, plus the challenges posed by COVID-19, and perhaps some creative considerations as well. Nevertheless, I truly enjoyed the first season and am eagerly awaiting any updates.

Ms. Marvel and the Red Dagger’s Future in the MCU

It’s disheartening, though not entirely surprising, to hear that Ms. Marvel‘s Season 2 might not happen. Given the less-than-successful box office performance of The Marvels, there were worries about its influence on the future of the three main characters from the film. Although Ms. Marvel‘s lead actress, Iman Vellani, seems to be set for roles like those in The Young Avengers, it will be intriguing to watch if any of her co-characters or storylines will resurface. The fifth episode of Daredevil: Born Again introduced Kamala Khan’s father, Yusuf Khan (played by Mohan Kapur). Despite facing criticism from Daredevil actor Charlie Cox, this appearance was widely praised by fans, indicating that there remains a strong interest in the Ms. Marvel segment of the MCU.

It appears that Marvel Television is reducing its future projects. Earlier, development on three upcoming Disney+ series – related to Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc – was halted. At present, only Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is being filmed, while Vision Quest is the only confirmed live-action Disney+ series in active development. Additionally, Jeremy Renner declined the offer for Hawkeye Season 2 after being presented with a lower salary by Disney. Furthermore, it seems that Moon Knight Season 2 has been discontinued, as confirmed by several individuals associated with the show. Similarly, both Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, characters introduced in Disney+ series, may be facing the same fate as Moon Knight.

Aramis Knight’s remarks about his character Red Dagger potentially featuring in other Marvel ventures are intriguing, suggesting possible storylines that Marvel Studios may have envisioned before significant changes occurred behind the scenes. It seems that the Red Dagger team could have clashed with The Ten Rings, a confrontation that might find its way into the narrative when Shang-Chi 2 is produced. Additionally, Red Dagger’s brief appearance in Secret Invasion could have underscored the scale of the events, enriching that series. Although we may never fully understand Marvel’s original plans, here’s hoping Knight gets another chance to appear in the MCU.
