Undoubtedly, one of the most frustrating and detrimental random occurrences in Elden Ring Nightreign is the persistent swarm of locusts. These pests seem to appear frequently after you’ve defeated most of the Nightlords. These creatures not only snatch your level progress (multiple times for each player), but they also fly off without any clear indication as to who or what is stealing your runes, leaving you with the vague guidance to “locate the thief”. Quite unhelpful, wouldn’t you agree?
Here’s an easier way to put it: If you’ve mastered the top Elden Ring Nightreign rune farming locations and value your time and progress, I’ll show you a method to prevent swarms of locusts from snatching your hard-earned runes.
How to stop the locusts stealing your runes in Elden Ring Nightreign
To locate the intruder stealing your runes during the locust swarm incident, track the trail of dark bug clouds as they take flight, and they should guide you to a hidden boss (a spoiler for which I’ll provide below). Once found, you’ll have to defeat this elusive foe. The boss becomes almost indistinguishable until engaged in combat, but don’t worry – its health meter will manifest, signaling that you’ve arrived at the correct location.
When you defeat the main enemy, any levels they took from you will be restored as runes. Since you’ll have to use these runes to regain your levels, it’s an aspect that might get overlooked amidst all the action. Similar to the Fell Omen invasion, you’ll receive a unique bonus for the duration of your run – random attacks on enemies could potentially yield a substantial number of runes. However, this benefit is random and may occur either on day one or two. Receiving this boost at the outset enables you to quickly reach level 15, which gives you a significant edge when facing off against Nightreign bosses and Nightlords.
In this game, the intruding Intellectual Plague (enemies) might be situated on the opposite side of the map, which means you’ll need to stay vigilant for more swarms of locust-like entities as you progress. Although the boss remains stationary, Limveld is not flat, making it challenging to maintain a consistent watch. Due to these complexities, I advise finishing this event promptly, especially if it’s day two, because there’s a chance the barrier begins to close, and the Intellectual Plague could be lurking outside the designated area. If you ever find yourself uncertain about your direction, pause and examine the horizon for multiple clusters of locust swarms to guide your pursuit.
Fortunately, locating the Sentient Pest can prove challenging, but contrastingly, encountering this Nightlord species will be a solitary battle when it intrudes upon you. Interestingly, battling the colossal moth independently is relatively straightforward to conquer.
