In Elden Ring, Nightrein grants you the power to enhance your weapons. However, before you can do that, you’ll need to locate and gather Smithing Stones.
As an enthusiast, I’m inviting you to embark on a thrilling journey in Elden Ring, where Nightrein dares you to endure three perilous days in a realm teeming with lethal confrontations. Selecting the class that resonates with your gaming approach and teaming up with friends undeniably boosts your odds of survival. However, remember that at the heart of it all, your personal skills and equipment significantly impact your fate.
Over time, as the opponents you encounter become increasingly powerful, you’ll find it necessary to enhance your weapons to ensure their defeat. It’s during these moments that Smithing Stones prove useful, even though locating them might be challenging if you’re uncertain about where to search.
So, here’s how to find them and how to use them to upgrade your weapons.
How to get Smithing Stones in Elden Ring Nightrein

In the town of Nightrein, Smithing Stones vary in rarity; the gray and blue versions are the most frequently encountered. You can acquire these stones by either opening hidden treasure chests or collecting loot from vanquished foes.
Furthermore, you have the option to buy them from vendors as well. Be sure to scan areas such as churches, ruins, campsites, but particularly Townships, as they often carry a wider variety of goods.
Instead, be aware that every stone will set you back 6,000 Runes, as opposed to discovering them through random loot.
These may be fundamental, but they’re adequate for enhancing your initial weapon and could prove useful during the early stages of the game.
How to get Smithing Stones 2

Obtaining Smithing Stone 2 becomes more challenging because you’ll have to overcome mini-bosses lurking at tunnel entrances, which are clearly marked on your map. However, the reward is improved upgrades that boost the base damage of your weapon as well as other key stats.
Once you conquer any mini-boss, you’ll then have two choices to make: either a passive boost or a Smithing Stone level 2. If your current weapon isn’t too powerful yet, going for the Smithing Stone 2 is usually a wise decision.
Other than that, there’s also a chance that you can encounter a merchant who sells these.
How to upgrade your weapon

Obtaining the Smithing Stones doesn’t automatically upgrade your weapon. Instead, look for an anvil close to a merchant and interact with it. Once you do, you’ll find a ‘Strengthen Ornament’ option that allows you to utilize the stones on your chosen weapon.
Here’s a quick summary of all the upgrade works:
- Smithing Stone 1: upgrades your weapon from Common to Uncommon +1
- Smithing Stone 2: upgrades your weapon from Uncommon +1 to Rare +2
If you’re seeking alternative methods to enhance your weapon, be sure to monitor The Shifting Earth occurrences. One such event, titled The Crater, offers an immediate upgrade to a Legendary status for your weapon.
After learning about the location of the Smithing Stones, take a look at the roster of returning bosses, optimized PC settings, and the top-performing build for the Revenant character. Enjoy your gameplay!
