A significant character from “The Book of Boba Fett” and the broader “Mandalorian” universe has revealed if they’ll appear in the big-screen version of “Star Wars,” titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” Five years after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” was released, Lucasfilm is taking a calculated risk by leveraging its most successful live-action TV series to bring the franchise back to theaters. This strategy results in “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” a continuation of Din Djarin and Grogu’s story following the events of “The Mandalorian” season 3, allowing viewers to reconnect with these beloved characters.

Indeed, Din Djarin’s and Grogu’s tale shares a deep connection with “The Book of Boba Fett,” another series set during the Mandalorian era. This show features Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand as they seize control of Jabba the Hutt’s palace and criminal empire on Tatooine. Recently, at the premiere of “Karate Kid: Legends,” Ming-Na Wen spoke to Liam Crowley from ScreenRant about whether bounty hunter Fennec Shand will reappear in the upcoming Star Wars movie.

Liam Crowley: Everyone is eagerly waiting for the return of Fennec Shand. It’s been quite some time since she last appeared. Could Mando and Grogu be gracing our big screens as early as next year?

Ming-Na Wen: Well, I mean I’m not in it, but if I can be that would be great.

Liam Crowley: Do you think we’ll see her again?

Ming-Na Wen: I hope we see Fennec again. Yes, because I miss her too.

It Seems The Mandalorian And Grogu Won’t Be Bringing Boba Fett & Fennec Shand Back

Won’t Din Djarin Need More Allies?

Regrettably, it appears Fennec Shand won’t reappear in “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” despite the thrilling revival of Boba Fett and the initial appearance of Fennec Shand in season 2. However, Ming-Na Wen, who plays Fennec, didn’t explicitly rule out Boba’s involvement, as her statement centered on her character. Given the close bond between Boba and Fennec established in “The Book of Boba Fett,” it’s reasonable to assume that if one is absent, the other might follow suit.

Given that Star Wars has provided scant information regarding The Mandalorian and Grogu, it’s challenging to speculate how Fennec and Boba might have been part of the narrative, but it’s clear that Din Djarin considers them valuable allies. If the finale of The Mandalorian season 3 hints at a future where The Mandalorian and Grogu join the New Republic against the Imperial Remnant led by Grand Admiral Thrawn, they might require as many allies as possible. Why not enlist the help of two long-standing friends?

Is There A Future For Fennec Shand After The Book Of Boba Fett?

A Bounty Hunter Can Travel Anywhere In The Galaxy

Unfortunately, “The Book of Boba Fett” is often criticized as one of the weaker live-action TV series in the Star Wars universe. While the storylines involving Din Djarin and Grogu were engaging, they seemed to overshadow that of Boba Fett himself. The narrative didn’t quite align with what fans anticipated from such a legendary character. However, the show did have some commendable aspects, but the negative reaction it received may have influenced Star Wars in deciding where to place these characters next.

While many people planning to watch “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in theaters may have previously seen “The Mandalorian“, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve watched “The Book of Boba Fett” as well. This is a situation that “Star Wars” has encountered before. The unexpected reunion of Din Djarin and Grogu in “Boba Fett” was missed by viewers who skipped the spinoff and jumped straight into season 3 of “The Mandalorian“, without realizing that Din and Grogu had already been reunited, leading to unnecessary confusion.

Translating a TV series into a feature film is always a daring move, particularly when it’s connected to other ongoing narratives such as “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ahsoka”. If leaving out characters like Fennec Shand and her boss simplifies the storyline for the movie, it makes sense, even though it’s regrettable. It seems challenging for Boba and Fennec’s characters to evolve without being part of the major narrative in the “Mandoverse”.

If they reappear, it’s probable that we’ll encounter them in stories predating the New Republic period, similar to Fennec’s recurring role (performed by Ming-Na Wen) in “Star Wars: The Bad Batch”. These characters have immense potential, and Fennec, in particular, could benefit from a more detailed exploration of her history. It’s uncertain what lies ahead for this character after “The Book of Boba Fett”, but given her profession as a bounty hunter, she might show up anywhere.
