Young Sheldon Actress Valerie Mahaffey Dies at 71

Actress Valerie Mahaffey, who gained fame from roles in shows like Northern Exposure, Young Sheldon, and Desperate Housewives, has sadly passed away at the age of 71. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Mahaffey’s publicist confirmed that she lost her battle with cancer. Many TV fans from the ’90s will recognize Mahaffey for her numerous guest appearances in popular shows such as Seinfeld, Cheers, Wings, and Frasier. More recent audiences might be more familiar with her work on Young Sheldon, where she played Victoria MacElroy for 14 episodes. On May 30th, Mahaffey’s husband released a touching statement following her passing.

Mahaffey spent her first eleven years in Indonesia before moving to various places like Nigeria, Texas, and England throughout her life, as reported by Variety. Her acting journey began on Broadway with roles in numerous plays during the 1970s, including ‘Dracula,’ where she acted alongside Raul Julia, who later gained fame as a member of the Addams Family and Street Fighter cast.

In 1992, she bagged an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in the show “Northern Exposure.” Her character was a worrywart wife of Adam Arkin’s personality from the series. Notable TV appearances also include Alma Hodge on “Desperate Housewives” and Lorna Harding in Christina Applegate’s Netflix show, “Dead to Me.
