The first season debuted in November 2022, and fans have eagerly anticipated the second season since then. Now, the highly-anticipated second season is just around the corner.
Following the impressive run the show has enjoyed on its platform, Netflix is now pushing hard with promotions for Wednesday‘s second season. Already, a few promotional images have been released, along with a teaser trailer. During Netflix’s Tudum 2025 event, an exclusive sneak peek at the first six minutes of Season 2 was unveiled for Wednesday‘s second season.
In the shown footage, Wednesday is seen tied up at a dinner table filled with dolls, following an incident where she took an item belonging to a notorious serial killer and carried out a certain ritual. A glimpse of what follows unfolds, linking back to the airport scene hinted in the trailer prior to her journey to Kansas City. This clip also presents Haley Joel Osment as the serial killer character.
Prior to unveiling the latest trailer, Netflix emphasized the show’s global influence by featuring numerous fan videos from various parts of the world. At the event, Luiz Guzmán, Joanna Lumley, Fred Armisen, Isaac Odonez, and Jenna Ortega were present. Jenna Ortega expressed gratitude to the fans for their support of the show, while the other actors drew attention to the family’s unique characteristics.
On the heels of its debut, Wednesday Season 1 skyrocketed to success on Netflix. The iconic IP of The Addams Family already carried significant weight, but the spinoff series featuring Jenna Ortega as the lead character surpassed all predictions. Since its release, the show has consistently held the number one spot in the English TV popularity rankings, boasting an impressive 252.1 million views, even outperforming Stranger Things Season 4.
The first season of this show garnered plenty of praise, earning 73% approval from critics and 85% applause from viewers. With such enthusiasm from fans, it seems that Netflix is preparing for another hit with Season 2.
In the initial sneak peek, we see Wednesday back at Nevermore Academy, going against what transpired in the Season 1 finale. Interestingly, her mother Morticia admits that this is the first instance where she consented to Wednesday attending a school voluntarily. The trailer hints at even scarier situations, humorous interactions with Wednesday’s roommate, the werewolf Enid, as well as fresh murder mysteries.
Originally, the show creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, hinted at an increase in horror scenes and a shift away from uncharacteristic events. However, they have now revealed that Season 1 had some terrifying sequences, but this season will feature even more intense moments that could be compared to a horror movie. As Millar put it, “There are definitely moments in this season that are worthy of a horror movie.
The Addams Family Will Be a Bigger Part of Wednesday Season 2
While Season 1 deviated from the usual storyline of the Addams Family, with brief cameos from other characters, this divergence will end in Season 2. The quirky family will reappear prominently, and both Morticia (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) have been promoted to regular series roles. It appears that Pugsley Addams will have a more significant part, and Uncle Fester (portrayed by Fred Armisen) is set to return as well.
On Wednesday, Season 2 of “The Addams Family” will round off the family storyline, as the first season did not include the character of Grandmama. This role, known as Hester Frump, will be brought to life by Joanna Lumley. The character was briefly introduced to fans in the initial trailer.
One aspect we were thrilled about for this season was the inclusion of Hester, Morticia’s mother,, as revealed by Wednesday’s co-creator Miles Millar. On our first day on set, Joanna walked in and she simply embodied Hester, delivering each line flawlessly. She’s a perfect fit and incredibly funny. The dynamic between Wednesday and Hester is special; you can see a spark in their interactions that promises to win over viewers. We believe everyone will develop a soft spot for Hester.
Hinting at her upcoming role, the co-creator suggested that Season 2 might be where she makes her first appearance. However, it’s important to note that Netflix has not officially commissioned another season as of now. Given the series’ success, though, it wouldn’t come as a shock if they did so.
On Netflix, the second season of the show “Wednesday” will be released in two segments. The initial segment is set to debut on August 6th, with the remaining portion coming out on September 3rd, 2025.
