Eddie Murphy Reveals Awkwardest Nutty Professor Scene He Ever Filmed

Comedy legend breaks down why his most unsettling moment in The Nutty Professor 2 was so strange.

During a recent episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, Eddie Murphy shared insights about a specific topic. He expressed, “I found the relationship between his parents in Nutty Professor 2 particularly interesting.” He went on to explain, “Because the father can’t perform sexually. So there’s this part where she asks him if he should try Viagra.” Murphy added, “While filming that scene, I had to pretend to be dejected on the bed because my husband couldn’t maintain an erection. I remember thinking, ‘This is quite an unusual situation.’

In a modern retelling, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps featured Eddie Murphy portraying multiple characters, including the lead character Professor Sherman Klump and his volatile persona, Buddy Love, along with other members of the Klump family. Additionally, Janet Jackson took on the role originally played by Jada Pinkett in the first film, named Denise Gaines. Four years after the events of the first movie, Nutty Professor II follows Sherman dealing with his stylish counterpart, Buddy, who intermittently seizes control over their common body.

The Sequel Was Derided by Critics but Was a Box Office Hit

When Nutty Professor II: The Klumps was unveiled, it faced a barrage of criticism from reviewers. They often pointed out the movie’s weak plot, script, and pace as significant flaws that seemed to overshadow Eddie Murphy’s exceptional acting. Rotten Tomatoes, a site that aggregates reviews, gave it a 27% positive rating based on 89 professional assessments. Its “Popcornmeter” score, calculated from over 100,000 audience ratings, was slightly better at 33%. Despite the negative reception, Nutty Professor II managed to make a strong impact at the box office, earning $166.3 million against a production budget of $84 million. Some viewers argue that it’s a humorous and underappreciated sequel.

Enthusiasts of Murphy’s acting can anticipate watching him in the upcoming movie titled “The Pickup“, written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, and directed by Tim Story. In this film, Murphy plays Russell, an armored truck driver who, together with his colleague Travis (played by Pete Davidson), finds themselves in a precarious situation when their truck is attacked by a group of criminals led by Zoe (portrayed by Keke Palmer). “The Pickup” is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 6.
