People Can Fly cancels Square Enix-published Project Gemini, VR game Project Bifrost

The CEO of People Can Fly, Sebastian Wojciechowski, announced that they have decided to halt production on two ongoing projects – the Square Enix-published ‘Project Gemini’ and their own virtual reality game ‘Project Bifrost’. This decision will inevitably lead to job losses within the company.

The programmer is simultaneously collaborating on “Gears of War: E-Day” with The Coalition, as well as “Project Delta” in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Here is the full message from Wojciechowski:

Today, we took a challenging step by putting a halt on both Project Gemini and Project Bifrost – the latest updates regarding these projects have now been publicly disclosed.

The halt in the Gemini project is due to two main reasons: firstly, we haven’t received a proposed addendum to our Publishing Agreement outlining the terms for future milestones on the Gemini project from the Publisher. Secondly, there has been no communication regarding the Publisher’s intention to either continue or end the Gemini project.

As a gamer, I’ve got to admit it’s disappointing to say that Project Bifrost has been put on hold. After examining our financial situation, it appears we’re struggling to secure the resources and funding needed to keep developing and launching this exciting project.

Consequently, we must undergo major reorganization within our studio and reduce team sizes, a move that is particularly painful for us all.

Allow us to convey our heartfelt sorrow and disappointment about the turn of events, alongside our profound appreciation for every single act of kindness and support you’ve shown thus far.
