Looking forward to next week, the beloved animated series Phineas and Ferb is making a comeback with new episodes! The revival can be found on Disney Channel and Disney+, marking the start of season 5, which picks up 10 years after the show’s original conclusion. This time around, the Flynn-Fletcher family continues their zany adventures, all while their pet platypus faces off against evil forces. Alongside the fantastic performances from the main cast, Phineas and Ferb has also welcomed several high-profile guest stars in the past, including Ben Stiller (Kakapoopoo), J.K. Simmons (J.D./Napoleon), and Seth MacFarlane (Jeff McGarland).
In the initial episode of the fresh season, we find Phineas and Ferb sharing screen time with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul veteran Jonathan Banks. He lends his voice to the role of the driving instructor who assesses Candace’s (Ashley Tisdale) driving skills. In an exclusive chat with Ebaster, creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh delve into Banks’ guest appearance and their experience incorporating well-known stars. As a die-hard movie enthusiast, let me share something exciting: We’ve managed to secure some incredible talent, leaving us bewildered! When Jonathan Banks walked in, I couldn’t help but reminisce about his hilarious antics from movies past, like the infamous buffet scene in Beverly Hills Cop. Hearing him recount that experience was a real treat. Whenever I see him, I can’t help but picture that scene, his genuine reaction adding an unexpected dash of humor without any forced gags. Simply priceless!
Jeff “Swampy” Marsh: I recalled him from Buckaroo Banzai, where he portrayed the hospital staff member alongside John Lithgow. For quite some time, I’ve admired his work and was overjoyed when he agreed to join us. It’s always delightful when actors who are new to animation decide to collaborate with us. Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to have many talented individuals say yes to our projects. Sometimes, they do so simply because — I remember a friend of mine whose kids attended school with ours, and he lent his voice for one project and said, “This is the only thing I can show my children, as I usually play gruesome, frightening characters like killers.” He expressed, “I’m so thrilled to join in and engage in lighthearted antics.
Back then, when Malcolm McDowell, our Grandpa character, expressed his desire to sing a song, I found it surprising – not something typically associated with him. Yet, he enjoyed it immensely. It’s enjoyable to see people step out of their comfort zone and do the unexpected.
What Jonathan Banks’ Cameo Means For Phineas & Ferb Season 5
Stars Like Banks Voicing Danville’s Side Characters Make Phineas & Ferb Better
Jonathan Banks is undeniably an intriguing new member in the cast of Phineas and Ferb, taking on a part that subtly echoes the character he portrayed in the Breaking Bad series. Moreover, some minor characters in Phineas and Ferb have cleverly hinted at their voice actors, with Seth MacFarlane’s transformation into opportunistic TV producer Jeff McGarland being a prime example. The side characters of Phineas and Ferb are one of the show’s biggest assets, and the hints about future guest stars from Povenmire and Marsh suggest that the revival will be worth looking forward to.
Featuring an abundance of surprising guest stars, the upcoming season of Phineas and Ferb promises to deliver even more unforgettable standalone storylines. Alongside the witty humor provided by minor characters, recurring gags, and the vibrant personalities inhabiting the Flynn-Fletchers’ world, the inclusion of additional talented voice actors is sure to amplify the laughs.
