Leslie Benzies of Build A Rocket has discussed their project, MindsEye, and their strategy to provide a high-value, no-frills experience. Yet, this is just the initial move; they’re also working on a larger, long-term strategy that spans over a decade.
During an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Benzies emphasized that the game would still be updated with fresh content. He explained that certain features, such as races, are created for amusement. However, most of the new content will be woven into the storyline. So, after experiencing the grand ten-year plan, players will have a clear understanding of this universe’s structure.
As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the prospect of a multiplayer, open-world experience in this game. But what sets it apart is its focus on empowering players by considering the amazing content they create. With user-friendly tools at their disposal, there’s a strong chance many players will dive in, experiment, and share their creations with us. Our hope is that some of these efforts will captivate us, enabling us to showcase them as part of our strategy to engage other players.
Remarkably, the tale of MindsEye lies squarely within the broader narrative that Build A Rocket Boy intends to convey. To put it another way, we’re planning to rewind 10,000 years, then move forward a specific period. It’s the crucial piece of the jigsaw that will leave players curious about the larger story. This was expressed by Benzies.
The studio has chosen not to reveal extensive clips of the overall experience to prevent spoilers, although they do hint that the narrative will include unexpected turns.
In terms of multiplayer, Benzies explained, “Our ambition is to let players effortlessly design their own multiplayer open-world games. Imagine being able to get into the game, drive around, pause at a captivating spot, construct a small mission, resume driving, and create another mission. Repeat this process a couple of hundred times, and you’ve essentially created your own open-world game. That’s the vision from the development perspective.
Build A Rocket Boy is not just about creating rockets; they’re also working on a project that encourages social interaction and collaboration in storytelling. To achieve this, they are planning to release an open-world multiplayer game next year, set a year after the events of MindsEye. Additionally, a separate open-world free-roam game is planned to link these two releases together.
Each tale weaves together in an unusually fresh and creative fashion that seems appealing to modern gamers. It appears they appreciate the intricacy of more profound narratives.
