Why Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Says Ex Kody Brown Is “A Failure”

It transpired that not everything that Sister Wives star Janelle Brown had shared with her ex-husband Kody Brown was particularly favorable.

In her discussion on the TLC show’s June 1 special, she clarified that when marrying in a plural marriage, as per our belief system, one is generally expected to grow and evolve beyond their current self.

In other words, with a greater number or unions comes greater responsibilities. 

In his role as a husband to Meri, Christine, Robyn, and Janelle, he was expected to ensure that all these relationships functioned smoothly, emphasized the 56-year-old. While it wasn’t essential for the marriages to be identical due to fairness not always being attainable, it was his duty as the patriarch to address the unique needs of each relationship, whatever form that might take.

Instead, in November 2021, the man who was Christine’s father saw her declare the conclusion of their 25-year relationship. About a year afterward, Janelle and Meri did the same.

In November 2021, Christine informed her father, who was also her husband for 25 years, that they were ending their union. A year later, both Janelle and Meri followed suit.

Both sentences maintain the original meaning while using simpler, more natural language.

Beyond the apparent differences, Janelle mused, lay Kody’s struggle to fulfill his numerous promises, especially during the pandemic when he spent a significant amount of time with Robyn and their children: Dayton Brown (25), Aurora Brown (23), Breanna Brown (21), Solomon Brown (13), and Ariella Brown (9).

In essence, Janelle mused that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he appeared to express something like, ‘I’m choosing to ignore it. You two don’t get along, I’m drained. If I continue, it might shorten my life, so…’ He effectively communicated his exhaustion and desire to step back, which could be likened to a mini-outburst or tantrum of sorts.

After he ceased pounding his feet, it dawned on him that the first three women he was married to had left by using their feet to depart.

Janelle admitted that their former connection was with the Apostolic United Brethren, a fundamentalist Mormon group, and while everyone has moved away from the culture, she noted that his failure lies in not meeting the standards for a man involved in plural marriages.

And she’s not his only spouse reaching that judgment.

In the context of polygamous religions, if a man finds himself without three of his wives, it suggests there may be issues with him personally. When one observes families where the husband loses all his spouses, it often appears as though the problems stem from him.

It’s the sort of burden that could leave a man feeling as if he’d taken a knife to the kidneys. 

Sukanya Krishnan inquired whether Kody found it difficult to accept what was said, to which Christine replied, “I believe it would. He had imagined a picture-perfect, idyllic scenario in his mind.

Instead, she pointed out that he blamed everyone for departing, as expressed by Christine. It seemed to her that this blame was akin to saying the situation was already damaged before our departure, and things were falling apart even before we left.

Gwendlyn Brown, one of Kody’s six children with Christine, would tell you that their relationship started to deteriorate long before the stay-at-home directives were issued.

In a recent conversation with Teen Vogue, the 23-year-old expressed that it seemed to them for some time that their parents should have divorced. As a child, they recalled an instance where they witnessed an argument between their parents, and their immediate thought was, “I wish they would divorce.” Isn’t it unusual for a child to think that way, don’t you agree?
