Outriders, Bulletstorm Dev People Can Fly Cancels Two Games, Layoffs Imminent

Developer People Can Fly has announced the cancellation of not one but two major projects.

The game development studio, recognized for hits such as Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and most recently Outriders, has announced that it will not proceed with the production of projects Gemini and Bifrost.

The secretively developed game, code-named Project Gemini, which had a collaboration with Square Enix, will no longer be released. This decision was made because of issues such as poor communication and other contributing factors.

As a diehard fan, I’ve been eagerly following the development of Project Bifrost. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints and other factors, this independently-created game appears to have been put on hold, leaving me with a heavy heart.

Due to these cancellations, the CEO of People Can Fly, Sebastian Wojciechowski, mentioned that they are forced to make major adjustments within the studio and reduce their workforce, which he finds particularly painful.

I am deeply sorry and saddened by the way things have turned out, but I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for all the valuable contributions everyone has made thus far.

It isn’t clear exactly how many individuals could potentially be impacted by these job cuts. As per their website, the company, with operations in various places, currently has more than 600 employees on staff.

Regrettably, it’s not a new situation for the studio to have to let people go and halt ongoing projects. As recent as December, a comparable scenario surfaced.

In addition to People Can Fly’s current game, they are working on multiple other projects. They are collaborating with others on the development of Gears of War: E-Day, and have various upcoming games that have yet to be revealed, including one that will make use of a Sony intellectual property.

Here’s hoping the developer can turn its fortunes around in the future.
