28 Years Later, originally directed by Danny Boyle in 2002, follows up on the characters Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris portrayed as survivors from the original Rage virus outbreak in 28 Days Later. In this new installment, Boyle is once again at the helm, introducing a fresh set of survivors including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and others in the movie titled 28 Years Later.
ScreenRant collaborated with Sony Pictures and Regal for a 28 Years Later fan gathering in New York City, where a special showing of the initial 28 minutes was held, led by Liam Crowley. At this event, Boyle discussed the whereabouts of Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris’ characters from the original movie. “As for their current status,” Boyle stated, “I can’t disclose that information,” before adding that the new cast members are capable successors to their roles. You can read his complete remarks below:
In essence, the storyline isn’t directly connected to the initial movie, yet it continues from the same post-apocalyptic world we saw with Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris in the first film, 28 years later. However, their fates are unknown to us. I can’t disclose their whereabouts, but the new characters stepping into their roles are more than capable replacements.
